First, an enthusiastic rec for Olay Smooth Finish Facial Hair Removal Duo Fine to Medium Hair. I've spent the past decade or more getting my eyebrows and my upper lip waxed fairly regularly. In the past few months, though, my skin has gotten so dry that waxing my upper lip has been more trouble than it's worth, creating irritation that lasts for much longer than it should. So I tried using this depilatory cream and am extremely pleased. In six minutes, my lip was hair free without an ounce of discomfort. (Of course, I then had to stop myself from slathering my whole face in it because, as I reminded myself, even Eva Green has tiny little baby hairs on her forehead and she is the most beautiful woman in the world.)

On to perfume! I did a little stats work today and discovered that I have tested 77 BPAL, 17 Chanel, 8 Guerlain, 3 Dior, and 12 assorted scents to date. I'm no Luca Turin, but that seems an impressive number of trials to me.

Alecto: Olive leaf, raspberry leaf, vetiver and cedarwood.

Emmma thinks Alecto smells like a dirty bathroom in which someone has sprayed air freshener, a cloying sweetness masking something terribly nasty.

To begin with, I smell strong cedar and something sweet that's a bit off-putting. Then the sweetness fades and the vetiver becomes more pronounced. Eventually it fades into dark and peppery pencil shavings. I wrote in my notebook that it reminded me of Lear, but I didn't have the imp any more to do a side by side comparison.

Salome: almond with star jasmine, oakmoss, red sandalwood and Egyptian musk.

What can I say? My antipathy for jasmine is predictable. Roundly disliked by all.

Urd: Muscadine, black and red patchouli, cereus and nag champa.

If you want to smell like Nag Champa, you'd do better to light a two dollar stick of incense and stand in the smoke than spend money on this.

VETIVER, my old nemesis. Not quite as bad a migraine trigger as patchouli, but not great, either.

Aww I do like jasmine!....altho BPAL's almond note goes very strong and Jurgen's on me. sigh.

I love jasmine but I can't abide musk of any sort. All of those perfumes sound awful to me, truth be told.

Good for you for finding a hair removal product that works for you. I just tweeze but I don't have many dark hairs and I leave the others alone.
