I need some help here, people!!! *puppy dog eyes*

I have drawn one of my friends, Roman, over to the dark side that is Live Journal. I'm immensely pleased because it gets harder and harder for me to keep up with out-of-town friends who aren't on lj. romanthepoet is super witty, ascerbically funny, and a damn fine poet as his handle implies. I think you djdarksoul and nomad4life and thatbitch_sarah would find him particularly amusing. He is not necessarily into BtVS and Ats or slash but he is interested in gothic, vampires, and Victorian England, all interests which we share to some degree. I know a lot of your flists are at critical mass, but if anyone is interested in reading some damn fine poetry, you might want to check him out. I'm trying to help him find communities to post in that he might like. He also is bereft of icons and not really interested in any of mine that declare Spike and Xander's true love. *g* Does anyone have any writer icons that are up for grabs that he might use? Or do any of you also post in poetry communities that he might find hospitable? If you guys know any other people that might be interested in helping Roman get a start on lj, please let them know too.

This got me to thinking about something that I promise is related to porn in a weird way. Before I started reading fanfiction, I never found Angel or Xander physically attractive. *steels herself for the rocks and tomatoes sure to be flying her way* Spike I always found attractive; ditto Doyle; ditto, gulp, Giles (I mean, Giles singing "Free Bird?" C'mon Southern gals unite!).

As I started reading fanfiction, I developed this kinda idealized image of really all the characters, even the ones I already found attractive. So now, when I read, I'm not imagining David Boreanz or Nick Brendon really, but something I've sorta invented. I'm comparing it in my head to the difference in experience I have with reading porn and watching porn, but I'm not really sure that works either.

Does anybody else do this or am I just slap!nuts? And if you do, what do you think it means, if anything, other than that I've found a way to enjoy characters I didn't necessarily find attractive when I was watching the show?

And does anybody else have a different experience watching porn and reading it? I'm gonna have to base this part of the question on watching het porn cause computer NOT WORKING!!!!!!!!!! to allow me to expand my porn horizons. For instance, I enjoy watching oral sex smutty goodness as much as I like reading it, but not so much with the penetrative part. Does that make sense?
