10 Facts about Lorraine

1. I have celiac, Hashimoto's (a thyroid autoimmune disorder), and interstitial cystitis (a bladder autoimmune disorder).

2. I have two daughters, Emma 15 and Fiona 4.

3. I have a Ph.D. in Victorian literature.

4. I have always lived in the Deep South in the U.S.

5. I was raised fundamentalist, Protestant Christian (Southern Baptist), converted to Catholicism in graduate school, and now I have no spiritual practice or discipline.

6. I grew up in a very rural area on nine acres. We had a couple acres of garden, lots of fruit trees (figs, persimmon, pear, plums), blueberries, muscadines, and scuppernongs. Dad hunted and fished extensively. We were very largely self-sufficient. I didn't eat a store-bought tomato until I went to college. It tasted like despair.

7. Politically, I am liberal, a little more left than center left but not much more.

8. I don't like dogs. I try to like to dogs. It doesn't work. :(

9. My favorite perfume is Chanel Sycomore.

10. My favorite gemstones are garnets and pearls (especially together!).
