Talk to me!!!

I have gone completely cross-eyed and simply cannot write any more of my column that's due on Monday.

And yet, every night this week as I lay down to sleep, I have coughed and coughed and coughed until I kinda think my esophagus is eroded. These are not the abs of steel I wanted! So, not really relishing bedtime.

Let's do this instead. Give me a fannish prompt--pairing, character, situation, *something*, and I'll write you one hundred words right now on the spot, insta-fic.

:)

*is bored*

Sheppard/Woolsey. Making the most of things.

You get 200 words because I <3 you!

You can’t admit, even to yourself, exactly why you step out on the balcony of your quarters every morning at precisely 6:00 a.m. Atlantis Time to drink your coffee. You tell yourself this quiet moment is necessary to your mental health—fifteen minutes with only the rich and astringent aroma of dark roast and the ocean breeze on your face for company. And then far below you, Colonel Sheppard and Ronon round the corner on their morning run. Sheppard’s black shirt is even darker under his arms and down the middle of his chest. His breath sounds loud and ragged to you even at this distance. He is grinning.

You finish your coffee as they disappear around the bend and then you sign off on some off-world mission reports and you read the weekly reviews from each division and by the time you are ensconced in your office of glass, you have made yourself forget that you are a man who feels and quite deeply. You have buried the hope that you might play any other role than the leader of this expedition. Sheppard’s grin—that you keep. You learned early to make the most of what little you have.

Oh my heart! Woolsey is so lovable.

You can’t admit, even to yourself, exactly why you step out on the balcony of your quarters every morning at precisely 6:00 a.m. Atlantis Time to drink your coffee.

John and Ronon would be a hell of a morning pick-me-up.

by the time you are ensconced in your office of glass, you have made yourself forget that you are a man who feels and quite deeply.

Aww! He pines so pretty.

Sheppard’s grin—that you keep. You learned early to make the most of what little you have.

That is a very smart move. *hugs Woolsey* This whole thing is made of win.

He pines so pretty

I KNOW!!!!!!!!! And now I have this image of him as the princess at the top of the glass mountain and Sheppard as the knight trying to win his hand. MAKE IT STOP!!!!!! IT'S TOO AWESOME TO CONTEMPLATE.

How could I crush such awesomeness?

Regrettably, Woolsey has found that when one gets to a certain age, one ceases to be seen as a sexual being. Eyes slide past him as if he's not even there; the Marines stop their chatter when he walks into a room, as if he's someone's uptight grandmother.

But every so often, when they've had a particularly rocky day, something flickers in Sheppard's gaze. It never lasts long enough for Woolsey to be entirely sure, but just the possibility is tantalizing enough to leave him breathless.

This day, Sheppard is standing in Woolsey's quarters, sucking obscenely (obliviously) on a cigar, and Woolsey has to clench his fists to stop himself from plucking it away, pushing Sheppard to his knees, making those eyes flutter closed again and... Well, the fantasy, for all its overwhelming sights and scents, is best left as just that. Sheppard is adept enough at indulging his self-destructive tendencies without giving him a helping hand. But a man can dream.

Oh, man. I love this.

I think that one of the things that fandom has trouble acknowledging is the way that in real life, as you say here, we do not often see old(er) people as sexual beings. I really, really like when that idea is explored in fic.

And also, excellent fantasy, Dick. Mmmmmmmmm.

Fandom seems to be all about the pretty. They can't slash a guy unless he's physically attractive. And many people seem to fetishize youth. Me, I've always had a thing for smart guys, the type where you can see there's something going on behind the eyes, which is why I'm so fond of Woolsey. And I've always liked men rather than boys.

I like to imagine John having a complicated Thing for male authority figures - part of him wants to submit, but he fights it and it comes out as petulant insubordination. I think Woolsey would very much like to explore that, but the trick is how to do it without breaking John down too much.

Now, I'll be honest. Kieran Culkin was my jailbait fantasy until Zac Efron took over (OMG have you seen the trailers for that hideous new movie he's in with Michelle Trachtenberg? It looks like complete drivel but he is sososososoossoos pretty). But those are all PWPs.

When I really fantasize in those long and convoluted and *important* ways, it's always men. Sometimes they may have boyish qualities. But they are men.

All the guys I had crushes on when I was a teenager were in their late 20s/early 30s. I'm weird like that.

Yes! Older guys have more interesting & complex things to angst about than just "Does he/she like me?" Not that the relationship angst isn't interesting, but when it's the only thing they care about? Not so much.
