1. Gotham is such a fun show. I am enjoying the hell out of this season. While I must admit that I'm super bored with all the Court of Owls crap, everything else is fantastic. Ivy and Oswald interacting is comedy gold. I don't think they are since the show already went there with Barbara, but I wish they were setting up Lee to be a villain. Little moments along the way have made it seem like she could easily give into her rage and become one. Again, bored with this part of the plot, but it was nice for Jim that his uncle really was trying to be a good guy and atone rather than playing him.

2. So glad Lucifer is back! I love this show so hard. I love the reveal at the end that Candy was pretending to be so ditzy; I kept thinking that she was extremely insightful for someone so air-headed. I also love the scene between Lucifer and Amenadiel when Amenadiel realizes that Candy is about protecting Chloe, not Lucifer trying to protect himself. I also think that Chloe is just so damn big-hearted. I'm starting to side a bit with Lucifer that Chloe just can't help herself where he's concerned because her tendency to forgive him and move on is almost unbelievable. Can't wait to see how Lucifer explains Candy's absence.

3. Into the Badlands is almost done for this season. I have to tell you how much I appreciate the color palette of this show. After years of SPN and Angel (the last season of which was so dark that I often couldn't make out what was happening on screen) and shows like Gotham which are shot in blue and slate grey and black, I love watching a show that is saturated with vibrant and rich color. Last night's episode in particular was really pretty. I'm pretty sure the widow is Flea. I think that will come to light next episode.

4. Downton Abbey watch continues after a bit of a hiatus for us all to travel and conduct concerts and etc. Thank the baby Jesus in his golden diapers that all that mess with Alfred, Daisy, and Ivy is done. My least favorite story arc of the past few seasons, and given The Rape of Anna, that's saying something. Lordy is William's dad a good man. I think I'm ready for Daisy to leave Downton and take over the farm. That seems like it should be next for her.

Green is dead! I don't see why Anna's so upset about it, frankly. If there are witnesses to his death and nobody thinks Bates did it, goodbye and good riddance. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

I don't know which of Mary's potential suitors I like best. I think they're both pretty suited for her.

I love that Isabel is being courted a bit by Mary's godfather (although I think the town doc is the man for her).

Maybe Tom can find love with this school teacher. I hope so; he deserves it.

Poor Edith. I feel so terrible for her. She really doesn't want to give up her baby and I sincerely hope she doesn't have to. I just can't imagine what has happened to her boyfriend. He must be dead; I can't think of why else he'd be gone so long. Maybe she can fake a retroactive marriage and be his widow? IDK

5. I got a bathing suit! It's a size 10! It's a little snug under the arms, but bathing suits always stretch out a little if you swim regularly, so I don't think that will last long. I will post a picture soon. :)

6. I am finally done with this semester. Yay! Now I can start getting my class ready for this summer. I'm also going to do the responsible thing and get my classes ready for fall now so that I have nothing to do in that week leading up to fall semester beginning again. *nods decisively*

I have big plans for a productive summer. I want to go to the gym every day, swim most days, and have dedicated time to read books for pleasure, work on my class, and write.

This past semester teaching the senior level class was so wonderful. I've been teaching freshman and sophomore classes for more than a decade now, and while I truly do enjoy teaching those classes, they aren't really challenging anymore. The senior class was challenging; it was overwhelming; I had to be constantly reading, and I was constantly learning new things, and I felt so vital and alive and fucking good at my job. I think finally getting back into reading for pleasure helped with this, too. I'm reading all these Byatt novels which are full of the joy of writing and scholarship and talking with people about ideas and the glory of learning things, and I have felt brimful of intellectual energy, and I don't want to lose this feeling. I want to keep the momentum up. My chair said that I will probably get another senior level class next spring, so I want to try my best to keep this feeling stoked in the interim.

Swimming! It's the best. Hope you like the bathing suit. I am super-thrilled with my latest one, because it's got sun protection (I may have caught a bit of a sunburn hiking in Marin...)

I read up on it, and oy, REI has the bestest info site on clothing with UV protection! Quite, shall we say, illuminating.

yes, I would adore scorched nips

I giggled out loud at that, frankly. ;)
