1. We went to see the Minecraft movie, and I was thoroughly entertained. It's the first movie I've seen in the theater since the pandemic. I'd forgotten how unnecessarily loud they play the film. Jason Mamoa steals the show. His character is just so funny and pathetically endearing, and his interactions with Jack Black (who Josh says treats the whole movie like a Tenacious D video) are *chef's kiss*. They both clearly had a great deal of fun making this movie.

Of course, as soon as I got home, I checked AO3, and fandom is not letting me down with the Steve/Garrett (I didn't read any of them because they appeared to all be written by 12 year-olds, and I haven't had time to dig through for the gold), but fandom is letting me down with the Garrett meets Eddie Stranger Things crossover. LOL I mean, Garrett has the 80s metal hair and clothes and he's wearing eyeliner and he is hot as fuck; I could stand to read some Stranger Things crossover action. LOL

I know this was not intended as such, but I considered it my own personal SGA Easter egg when Garrett tells everyone he's going to watch their six. <3

2. I bought the latest book in the Southern Reach trilogy and realized about 20 pages in that I really needed to go back and read them all from the beginning to truly get the best experience.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Funny, sweet, and a guaranteed delight for any cat lover.

I always enjoy Scalzi's writing, and this is no exception.

1. Christmas card from [personal profile] trobadora! <3

2. some stuff what I have been reading: one book of lit crit and 2 short story collections )

I think Impure Worlds is worth reading for the two chapters on Huck Finn, both of which do an excellent job of explaining why the book has value but is also an offensive read for many African Americans and why it's not a good book to force K-12 students to read for that reason when many other books can do the same valuable work. Those two chapters are 5 star chapters; the rest of the book brings the rating down.

3. I really struggle to watch TV anymore, but we watched Glass Onion a couple days ago, and oh I'm so glad we did. First, what an excellent cast. Wow.

1. I asked a work colleague to be friends with me like a complete dork (seriously it was like I transformed back into my junior high self), and she said yes! So we've gone to lunch once and will go again next week. I'm so happy. It has been a long, long, long time since I have made a new RL friend. :)

2. I think the indigo bunting now lives in our yard! We've seen it basically every day since I reported its existence. The yard is mad with lady cardinals and gentlemen cardinals, and they are fat and aggressive. LOL I saw two red-headed woodpeckers scaling adjacent trees today while watching dishes. It was glorious.

3. I got a postcard from [personal profile] minoanmiss with "Quiet Girl" by Langston Hughes and one of her original drawings on it. *beams*

4. My BFF got me a vaccinated sticker after I expressed dismay that I had not been offered one either time I got vaccinated. It is now adorning my journal. <3

5. The last time I renewed my driver's license was 2013. Y'all, I just did that shit in ten minutes on the internet. I am never setting foot in a DMV ever again. The future is all Gene Roddenberry said it would be. LOL

6. I cannot recommend Fortune Feimster's Netflix comedy special "Sweet and Salty" enough. It is hilarious. I absolutely love that there's not a mean spirited moment in the whole thing. It is mostly about being gay and Southern and clueless. Emma felt seen. (She does mention weight loss at the very end, but she doesn't talk about it in terms of looks or standards of beauty.)
