Emma and I went to see Maleficent yesterday, and we both really liked it.

1. Well, we paid off the car and one of Josh's student loans last week. Got the title in the mail a couple of days ago, so naturally when Josh left the house tonight in a hurry to exchange a can of formula we'd bought that turned out to have been previously opened, the car died in the parking lot of CVS. Naturally.

2. Has anybody else gotten their Jack/Daniel ficathon assignments? I haven't gotten mine yet, and I was wondering when they're supposed to come out.

3. Now that I've finished City of Bones and started City of Ashes, I'm aware of what a shitty adaptation the movie is. On its own and independent of the original source, the movie is entertaining, but it's a pretty terrible adaptation of the book. And inexplicably so. I don't get what prompted most of the changes.

4. My husband said the nicest things to me tonight--things about how he models his teaching after mine and how he thinks it's clear that I'm doing what I was born to do and that he thinks of me as a mentor. :) :) :)

5. Fiona slept for a six hour stretch last night!!! She has learned to turn on her side! She grabs things deliberately. She smiles at me all the fucking time, and it feels great. One of these days I will actually post pictures of the munchkin for yea verily she is so beautiful, y'all. I mean she's a baby and so probably kinda weird looking also, but so damn beautiful. I am enjoying being a new mommy at 34 way more than 23, y'all. I mean, I'm older and creakier and my back is killing me, but I'm digging the Mombles role a thousand times better than I did a decade ago. I remember with Emma, it was a crisis of the highest order when she'd sleep for like 8 hours in a row, but wake up at 5:30 in the morning. I wanna go back in time and shake some sense into myself. LOL Now, I'm all, "OMG YOU SLEPT IN YOUR CRIB BY YOURSELF FOR EIGHT HOURS AND I DIDN'T HOLD YOU AND LOOK AT THESE COOL ASS INFOMERCIALS THAT ARE ON AT 5:30 THE WORLD IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND SO ARE YOU MY DARLING BABY OMG YOU CAN ALMOST GET YOUR WHOLE HAND IN YOUR MOUTH YOU MUST BE A GENIUS."

in My Child is Adorbs News, Emma is shocked to discover that the words to "Don't Fear the Reaper" are not, in fact, "Don't feel the rainbow."

Now the mockery may commence. I took Ems to see The Mortal Instruments yesterday and totally dug it. I thought it was thoroughly entertaining (and so did she!). Excellent use of CGI; none of the demons or monsters looked fake to me, and some of the CGI work was really beautifully done (as in the fire demons). I also appreciated that the demons and etc. were creepy and disturbing (way more than I had been anticipating actually), without resorting to cheap gore.

Overall, I really enjoyed the movie, I'm enjoying the book, and looking forward to seeing what happens in the series. Don't spoil me past City of Bones, please!

Say what you want about Cassie Claire (and I know there's tons to say), her problem has never been that she can't write an engaging story.
