:D I was almost afraid to read this one because of the warning for an unhappy ending, but I really liked it.
The description was fantastic, and the progression of the plot as well-- even as it went someplace none of us wanted to, it was convincing and perfect all the same.
For a long time, McClane doesn’t answer him. When he finally does speak, McClane’s voice is almost inaudible. “No,” McClane says. THIS I can see as an entirely realistic reaction on McClane's part. He's straight, he doesn't know how to deal with the attraction he has for Matt, but most of all he's not prepared to deal with having that relationship-- whether it's because Matt's a guy (with a whole lifestyle of secrecy on the horizon given who McClane is) or because he really does like Matt and that's too much emotional intimacy for a man who got burned by the woman he invested so much in. Either reason would be enough for him not to be able to take that additional step. Both together are even more compelling.
I also have to admit a secret love for Ben greeting McClane as "Hi, Lucy's dad."
