The outsider POV (which is something I always enjoy) is one of the big draws for me. I like seeing how our intrepid heroes come off to others who aren't in the know.

Fandom osmosis doesn't work all that great for me in terms of fic enjoyment. I'm not interested in reading in fandoms where I'm not familiar with the source material unless it's a really tiny part of the fic or inconsequential.
