He was never ever good at dialogue, and it's kind of heresy, but I don't think he's that good at the technical side of directing either -- not like Spielberg, who did really different things with the camera frame, from Jaws on. He had Carrie Fisher polishing his script FFS, but he got drunk on the idea he was this Grand Creator.
