certainly uncontaminated by cheese

I've been meaning to post this for ages and forgetting.

I enjoyed the Defenders even more having watched the first season of Iron Fist. I liked Danny and Colleen even without knowing them on the first watch, but this second watch was definitely more meaningful with that context.

I am still really confused about what happened to Kun Lun. At the end of season 1, it's clear that the Hand tried to invade but not whether it was successful or not. Danny dreams of everyone being murdered, but that's clearly just his fears and not confirmation that Kun Lun is gone. Elektra says she destroyed Kun Lun, and I don't see why she'd lie about it, but IDK.

I'm also confused about the immortal part of the Immortal Iron Fist. Does that mean that Danny will live forever if he doesn't get killed? Or just that the spirit of the dragon is immortal and will always be passed down to the next Chosen One?

Another point of confusion. Matt says Elektra has no heartbeat, but that's clearly not true of any of the other resurrected people (otherwise, how could Alexandra go to the doctor? Sowande's heart is beating when they capture him, too).

On first rewatch, I was kinda disappointed that Alexandra doesn't do anything physically badass, but I've come around on that. The whole point of her character is that she can't be physically badass; if she does, she risks death. I think on the first watch, I just wanted to see a beloved action hero being an action hero again, and that unfairly colored my perception of her character. On this watch, I appreciated her struggle to hold on to power (and the fear that is the foundation of her power) without being able to physically intimidate. On the previous watch, I focused on Elektra as more of a daughter substitute, but on this watch I realized that the Black Sky is entirely about being the physical might Alexandra can no longer display and the daughter thing is a polite fiction for Elektra's benefit.

Absolutely love the way the use of color and camera work changes for each Defender.

Absolutely love Jessica in this so hard. Love her punching Madame Gao. Love Madame Gao calling her the unyielding one.

I had forgotten how much Karen and Foggy being all pissy about Matt being Daredevil bothers me (although Foggy is better about it than I remembered him being; his acknowledgement that some things are too big not to get involved and calling Matt family gets me in the feels). I'm glad that gets resolved in DD season 3 because it's annoying. What is Matt supposed to do? Hear people in trouble and not help? What kind of person would he be if he could do that?

I really like Claire and Colleen acknowledging the importance of their roles in the group; seeing them be good friends to each other is awesome.

You know, the first time around, the end didn't have any resonance for me. I thought it was actually a wee bit silly having Danny crouch on the building top ala Batman. But on this watch, knowing his search for home and belonging and that he's decided NYC is home and knowing how much that charge from Matt means to him, the whole Batman crouch is endearing to me rather than silly.

Looking forward to starting season 2. I can't wait to be done so I can read all the fic!
