Poets for some reason often suffer when all their stuff is jammed into one big collected volume (short stories seem to do better maybe? IDK why?) but that especially happens with Sexton. I read some of her books in isolation first -- Love Poems, Transformations, Pretty Ones -- and they were great. But somehow when you read all her stuff together....And LP and T were two of her most popular books, too (not the prizewinning ones tho, lol) so people who read those first on their own and then go on to the collected volume get a bit of a shock!
