SPN, SGA reviews

Oh, show!!!!!!! I had forgotten how much I love Supernatural. I didn't take notes while I was watching so this reaction is rather off the cuff and not very substantive.

Lazarus Rising

I love the opening sequence with ACDC. One of the things I missed last season was the way the music operates as a third cast member; I felt like the music didn't have as strong a presence, season-wide. I hope this opening heralds a return to the way SPN used music in the first two seasons.

I adored Dean's rebirth scenes--him clawing his way from the grave to a world that looks as if it has been struck by apocalypse.

I love Bobby in this episode, the way he has clearly been grieving in an unhealthy way for both Dean who is dead and for Sam who he has lost. When Bobby threw that glass of holy water in Dean's face, I kinda wanted to reach into the screen and hug his neck. And I couldn't help but tear up myself when Bobby got misty eyed at the boys' reunion.

I did not realize until I'd watched the whole episode and thought about it for two days that Ruby was actually Cathy/Kristy. *headdesk* Once I realized that, I watched her first scenes again and I was really impressed with the delicate dance that she and Sam are doing. Of course, Ruby realizes instantly who Bobby and Dean are. She must also realize instantly that Dean *is* Dean; if the crossroads demon can smell a soul, I'm willing to extrapolate that ability to all other demons. So she decides to keep her identity a secret.

I love her crack about Sam and Dean being together. Ah, Ruby, never lose an opportunity to make a dig at a Winchester. Sam's facial expressions in that scene are so funny and complex when I watch them knowing the whole story. I love the implication that Sam and Ruby have been living together for MONTHS working on Sam's powers. So much het potential. So much slash potential. So much threesome potential. All in that one scene. *loves show* And then we get another scene in which the boys are straight up invited to a menage a trois. *loves show more*

I am so glad the show kept her character; Ruby is interesting and compelling and like a Trill can go through many hosts which opens a lot of intriguing casting possibilities. I'll miss Katie Cassidy; I like the way she played Ruby. But this new actor is mimicking her speech inflection and cadence and I like that.

I haven't watched "Are you there..." yet but I can't wait to find out more about Castiel and who he is and what he wants and what Sam can do with his powers and where Lilith is and the PTSD from hell that Dean is hiding from everyone. Oh yeah. This is going to be a great season.

The Queen

I think that I am fundamentally incapable of not loving every single second that Todd is on screen. Period. He is such a interesting and complex character and he's deliciously ambiguous, neither wholly evil or wholly good. You can trust him about as far as you can trust Harry Mayborne but fortunately, Todd's sense of humor is superior.

I love the more complex picture we get of Wraith society and politics. I love the homage to TNG; they should have subtitled this ep "Teyla goes Romulan." I love watching Teyla settle into the role of Wraith Queen, how at first she is uncomfortable and floundering and then gradually grows into the performance.

Other than everybody having their private conversations at ear shattering volume all over the enemy ship, I think this was a pretty solid offering.

Tracker

I'm sorry. Did SGA miss the part where Rodney and Ronon are friends? Or the part where Ronon is not such a jackass?

I love seeing a competent Keller. I love seeing her brave and soldiering on and doing what needs to be done in the face of such danger. I also believe that when she said she'd been sparring, she was referring to time spent with Teyla rather than Ronon, because hello? Episode continuity.

But other than that? Big time suck, SGA. Please quit harshing my team squee. It makes me cranky.

I will post my reaction to "First Contact" after I get the chance to watch this week's SPN.
