I make it sauteed and it doesn't get slimy (you've gotta have fairly hot oil and it needs to be dry).

But really, I love it in gumbo, so the slimy doesn't seem to bother me. We LOVE okra (though the boys had to pick it last summer at their grandparents, and they complained so much :) I love them having to work for their supper!!!

And fried okra is the best!!! (As are fried pickles. And pickled okra. And... :)

I love okra too -- doesn't matter if it's a little slimy; it does need to be cooked all the way through, though.

Yes, it's like long beans to me that way. Must be cooked, shouldn't be overcooked. (OK, I'll take mushy slimy okra over mushy beans :)

Look at the Germans overwhelming the Southerner's okra dislike :)
