I tend to think the same thing about most characters, so I don't know why I left it out of the poll. Well, besides the wine. *g* I almost never drink anymore, so when I do, it really makes me silly.

I also think of sexual orientation as an irrelevant category for some characters, as long as they can get somebody they find reasonably attractive (which can be a pretty low bar related to availability) to engage in one or more sexual acts the character is interested in. People in this category for me include Jayne (Firefly), Vila (Blakes7) and Eleanor (The Good Place).

That is to say, if Jayne thinks Simon wants to suck Jayne's cock, despite knowing that it is a terrible idea, Jayne will not try to talk Simon out of it. Vila thinks that voluntary sexual activity of any kind is not only better than coerced sexual activity, it's better than DIY (and more interesting than most alternative diversions available). Eleanor's magic hoo-hah wants what it wants.

Srsly though, I do like okra fried and pickled but not really any other way. It just gets so gelatinous to me.

I make it sauteed and it doesn't get slimy (you've gotta have fairly hot oil and it needs to be dry).

But really, I love it in gumbo, so the slimy doesn't seem to bother me. We LOVE okra (though the boys had to pick it last summer at their grandparents, and they complained so much :) I love them having to work for their supper!!!

And fried okra is the best!!! (As are fried pickles. And pickled okra. And... :)

I love okra too -- doesn't matter if it's a little slimy; it does need to be cooked all the way through, though.

OMG yes. My dad always grows okra, and it stings like hell to pick it.

I love the way my dad fries okra. He doesn't make a batter, he just dusts it lightly in cornmeal and pan fries it in a small amount of oil. It's really good and mostly tastes like okra instead of the thick batter you get at restaurants.

Do you not like Scream? I think the franchise really holds up (not the last movie, but the first three).

I am not a horror movie person. At. All. Which is funny, because I'm good with vampires and werewolves and all manner of supernatural beings, but that kind of stuff... *shudder* buckets and buckets of no.

I found a drink, but it turned out to be oatmeal stout last night. And it assisted me in writing about 1000 words of my handcuff trope fic that was SUPPOSED TO BE A SHORT STORY, OMG WHY IS IT OVER 4K NOW AND NOWHERE NEAR FINISHED, WTF BRAIN?

I am a huge huge wuss about scary movies. I usually don't watch them at all. But I can watch Scream, I think because it's deliberately funny.

It's not gross-out humor. I think it's genuinely funny. Most of the humor comes from the way they either uphold or subvert the normal conventions of the horror genre.

It's also star studded. I had forgotten that the second one has Jada Pinkett Smith AND Timothy Olliphant AND Portia De Rossi AND Luke Wilson, etc.

Also Scream the tv show would be better if a) it would just make BOTH the leads lesbians and in love with each other like I think they wanted to and maybe MTV wouldn't let them and b) it'd stop killing the women of color in their secondary leads list. You can always place your bets that way. Otherwise I'd really love the show.

Fried okra is okay if I'm at my Grandma's house and she's the cook who fried it. She died 35 years ago so it's been awhile since I've eaten okra.

Bill Maher is one of those people who I often agree with but who is too much an asshole a lot of the times. I watch his show; he gets really good guests, and I think the conversation is interesting a lot of the time.

I hear ya re: the cook. I really only like the fried okra my daddy does.

A long time ago, I worked for a company that translated things into Plain English, and the company bid on a contract for the IRS. This included a side trip to IRS headquarters, where we had lunch at the cafeteria. They served AMAZING fried okra--sliced from tiny pods--in little waxed paper envelopes. That has been my gold standard for fried okra ever since.

I have seen it alleged that if you are stewing okra or making a gumbo or a curry, you can keep down the slime factor by only removing the stem from the pod, leaving the cap intact so the seeds don't gloop out.

Oh sweet! Thank you for telling me. I'm so sorry I had to drop NOLA so I could go to bed at a decent hour. It's made such a difference, though, that I can't regret it too much.
