1. This is the kids' spring break, so Josh and I decided to suspend Fiona's homeschool stuff and let her have a break. She was so stoked about it; Monday she watched TV and took it slow and had a great time. Yesterday afternoon, she said, "Mom, I'm bored. Can we go back to having school again?" LOL So today we read more Howliday Inn. We read chapter four; draw Chester and Harold in the thunderstorm; write: what does Chester think about Heather and Howard?

2. We saw a mature turtle crossing the road! Josh helped it across, and we looked it up to find out it's a box turtle. Yay!

3. Josh is venturing out to the store tomorrow. The last time he went was March 31st, so I think we did pretty well. Next week, we'll need to stock up on meat again; luckily, the local butcher is still open.

Emma was having a rough day today. She is mostly fine, probably handling it all the best out of all of us, but today she was feeling restless and sad about not seeing anyone but us for the past three and a half weeks.

How are your boys?

They are fine. Younger boy with me, doing college online. His life hasn't changed all that much although I know he misses going to class. Most of his social life has been online for years.

The older one is working as an electrician with his dad so I worry about him but am trying not to. They are fine so far and taking all precautions. Older boy got his own apartment in February. Seems like ages ago now. So fun to get him all set up. Now this.

I'm glad they're doing well.

Throughout this whole thing I have had several selfish thoughts, one of which is that I'm glad both my children are still minors and here at home with me and the other that I'm glad this is not Emma's senior year. I feel so sorry for all the kids who've lost sporting events, prom, etc., and so sorry for them trying to figure out how to plan to go to college in the fall.

Yes. There are a lot of people wandering around in a fog of disappointment. Also all the athletes who abruptly did not get to finish their year in their sport.

Everything is upended in some way.

I know. Emma's final cross country season will start this summer (or should rather) and she's worried that she won't get to do it and that she won't get her letter as a result.

Not surprised Fiona wanted structure again! A break is great but only because it's a break. We've been doing two-days-on, one-day-off for that reason.

You are so right. I was skeptical about this break, but Emma fully intends to lounge about on hers, and since we talked about it in front of Fiona, I could't just not give her a break, too. It was good that she came to her own conclusion that she didn't really want it. LOL

I know! She loves reading so much. She even wanted to do her drawing and her writing in her notebook. *snuggles her*

I was just thinking earlier today that I couldn't fathom not reading for fun. What do people do all the time if they don't read? You never get bored as long as you have a good book. Its good that you're teaching that to Fiona early. Good for you!

You and me both! So many of my students don't read, and I genuinely don't understand how people who don't read live. It's unfathomable to me.

Fiona is finally only enough that she can read on her own for long stretches, and it's so wonderful to see.

My parents use to take me to the bookstore once a month where I could pick just one book of my own, no matter what it was. LOL. That was always a fun treat. Even if that book was too big or too adult for me, I'd get it. I quickly grew out of kid's books and was reading adult books when I was in sixth grade. I'd have to ask about words and such, but my Mom always helped me with that. I remember it with fondness now.

What a wonderful tradition and wonderful memory. I have similar memories about my parents always providing me with books. And of my mom reading, too. My dad has never been a reader beyond his Sunday school lesson and the Bible, but Mom is and was constantly reading, and I think that example is what is so important for kids.

I can always tell who is going to make As in my classes, and it's the kids who read for pleasure. I almost never have a kid who doesn't read for pleasure who makes an A.

No, he want's to return empty bottles to all the different stores. I want to stay home where I hope I'm safe. Him and my sister go out on a daily basis. I'm hoping they don't bring this sickness back home with them.

my mom & i once helped a snapping turtle across the road with the use of a hoe & wide square shovel. (the shovel was like the left example under scoop shovels in link below)

Josh just scooted the little box turtle with a stick. LOL
