East of Omaha by
taselby; Jack/Daniel; Adult
Jack and Daniel have dinner and hang out. That's the plot of this piece in a nutshell, and yet it's so much more. The language here is precise and exquisitely beautiful, the kind of words that you feel physically on your skin as you read. And the relationship they depict--man. I love this version of Jack and Daniel--a friendship so deep that words are not even necessary, an understanding that both feel is more precious than they deserve. I think most Jack/Daniel is written with a sense of inevitability about the pairing, and here their sexual love is not merely inescapable or fated, but the physical expression of something they've felt for each other for a very long time. Excellent read.
Eurydice, After by
synecdochic Jack/Daniel; Adult
This is a different kind of porn. This is porn in which the sex is really incidental. The sex is hot, don't get me wrong. But the payoff here is not the orgasm--it's the eroticism of language, the sensual nature of words, the emotional pornography of stripping a person down to his bones and leaving his vulnerabilities exposed. This is a gorgeously fucked up Daniel.
Bad Timing by
theemdash; Jack/Daniel, Daniel/Cameron; Adult
All these times they want each other, all these times they could have each other and it's never the *right* time and it hurts. And it takes them so long to get to a place where it's even feasible and even then it's not what either of them would really want but it's all they can have.

This is just a snapshot really, a tiny slice of the life that continues when the world has ended. I absolutely adore (beyond my capacity to textually render) moments of grace and tenderness and hope amidst bleakness that cannot be surmounted.

Kumtraya! What do Jack and Sam and Teal'c and Daniel do once Harlan has downloaded their consciousnesses into robot bodies? This story is about developing an identity once everything you believed made you yourself is taken from you. This is a love story. A beautiful story. And it's a sad story because we know how it ends, even if they don't yet.

What the Winesellers Buy by

This story is, as is always true with Exec, an indomitably fun and thinky read. I love that she has these women whose identities are constantly in flux revel in dressup and playacting with each other. A very nicely done commentary on Companions and on Inara's character.

This is Firefly by way of Emma and it is wonderful! Exec has a real gift for capturing the diction and the ambience of an author while completely transmuting the source text to accomodate the needs of whichever fannish love she's incarnating. I abolutely adore Inara's father as Mr. Woodhouse. His bits are always the ones that make me laugh aloud when reading the Austen.

The Thousand Fingered Wait by

This fic shows us the way Sam slowly unravels on that Tuesday that never ends. It is sexy and disturbing and insightful and, frankly, I'm hugely jealous. If I was going to tell a story about that day, this is the one I'd wish I had told.
