Seeking the advice of the interwebs

We have a friend who is a Vietnamese citizen, and we'd like to help her immigrate to America, but we're not really sure how to help her with this process (and neither is she). Does anyone have any advice or resources you can point us to? I think we may have located a job for her, and we're willing to help with expenses, but I'm not really sure how to go about this. I know you can get a Visa for being a student; what about for work?

I asked a friend whose husband moved from England to America - she said the lady's employer would need to sponsor her.

You can get a visa for work, but the employer must be willing to sponsor the employee, which requires jumping through a lot of hoops. More or less unless she has immediate family resident here in the US or a US citizen fiance, or is a skilled professional with an employer willing to jump through hoops (and there's employment visas available) there are not a lot of ways to get her over here.

That being said, www.visajourney.com has some forums where people are really helpful and you may get other options there if you ask around.
