Fionavar Tapestry + Crowdsourcing
I finished The Fionavar Tapestry today. I really enjoyed the end of the series; in fact, I feel rather emotionally drained right now after spending the last half hour of the book having a lovely cry. LOL
I expected characters to die, but I was surprised by who died and who lived. I thought Tabor was a goner for sure, and I was happy for him to survive. As soon as Darien took the knife from Kim, I was pretty sure he was going to die and save everyone that way. Although I didn't care for the Arthurian subplot much, I did really like that Arthur, Gwen, and Lance rode off to have an eternal threesome. I don't think there's any way to else to interpret that scene. I was shocked by Diarmuid's death. I really thought he'd last the whole series. I wasn't shocked by Finn's death, but it made me very sad. His poor mama and daddy. :(
I think my favorite part of the ending was Jaelle and Paul getting together. About time, dear characters. I've seen this coming for some time now.
I wonder about Kim and Dave going back to Earth, though. How could you go back and live there like nothing ever happened? I get they have families they miss (or in Dave's case want to start trying to forge a relationship with), but I think Earth would be rather mundane after everything they've been through. The implication is that they're going to start dating, which is probably for the best as I don't see how they could really be with anyone else, but I didn't like them going back.
In other news, assignments for the Jack/Daniel ficathon have gone out, and I want to do a little rewatch/refresh before writing my story. What do y'all think are the shippiest Jack/Daniel episodes since I have to limit myself to just a few?

The post is here.
Also, I think the old ship_manifesto comm on Livejournal had some good advice about Jack/Daniel eps… I'll look at that and see what turns up.
Definitely the two parter at the end of Season 1/beginning of Season 2 has some great stuff.
I also like Beast of Burden-- the team splits up and Jack and Daniel are together for that one. Also Abyss is a great one, if you can stand it.
It's harder than some fandoms, like Due South or Highlander or The Sentinel, because it's about this subtle onscreen chemistry that they have. There are these scattered moments, like the Space Monkey hug, or when Jack pushes Daniel's glasses back into place on his nose. Very subtle.
Enjoy!

Exec just commented on LJ that I should use you as a resource, and she was not wrong. This is perfect.
So excited about my assignment. I always get the best assignments.
