I got an amazing story: Taking Orders (the mirrorverse remix). It's Bones/Jim in an AOS Mirrorverse setting and contains all the wonderful sexy hijinks I can never quite seem to manage in my own stories. :) Go give the author some love, my friends.

I can't wait until the reveals so I can tell you all about the story I wrote. :) If anyone feels tempted to guess, it's my usual tonal shift gig in a fandom I have written for extensively.

Off to peruse the rest of the archive. Emma's going to camp this upcoming week, so I might actually get the chance to go through the whole archive this time. Whoooooo!

I finally decided which story I want to remix yesterday and am about halfway through with the writing. I've got the whole thing plotted out, though. I'm extremely pleased with myself. :)

Josh and I watched The Heat the other night with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. It was fantastic, y'all. One of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. We were literally howling with laughter. I thought it had some wonderful moments of poignancy where you might not expect to find them. And even though it's a comedy and contains ridiculous and over-the-top element, I think there was a subtle message there about police officers being more effective when they police the communities they also live in; they're doubly invested and they're part of the fabric of life there and in tune to the cultural mores that surround them. Now I want to see Spy. I have heard such good things about that movie, and the NPR review makes it sound like the shit, but those trailers are god-awful and don't seem to bear any relationship to the things people are saying make the movie so good.

I just started reading Garth Nix's Abhorsen trilogy; it starts with Sabriel. Anybody else read these?

What are y'all reading and watching? Rec me some stuff.

I finished The Fionavar Tapestry today. SPOILERS )

In other news, assignments for the Jack/Daniel ficathon have gone out, and I want to do a little rewatch/refresh before writing my story. What do y'all think are the shippiest Jack/Daniel episodes since I have to limit myself to just a few?

Everyone, please join me in signing up for the J/D Ficathon. I have had a wonderful experience participating in this ficathon, and I think you will, too.

Signups are HERE and don't close until June 7th. Stories are due on July 26. This year, the ficathon is also hosting an After Party for Complementary Fanworks for people who want to make art or podfic or other kinds of fanworks. Should be a lot of fun.

my story already has comments! *boggles* Oh, this is a happy Lorraine. Guess which story is mine!!!!!!! I WILL GIVE TO ANYONE WHO CORRECTLY GUESSES MY STORY AT LEAST A DRABBLE IN THE FANDOM AND PAIRING OF HIR CHOICE (PROVIDED IT APPEARS ON MY FANFIC MASTERLIST). Hint: the story is in a fandom that appears on my masterlist, so something I've written before.

Also! I got a second interview. Interview at Waycross is on Friday and on the way home I will interview at Middle Georgie on Monday.

*bounce*

Y'all. The glee. I'm gonna have a job. I really, really am.

1. Ahahhahahhahaa. You know how I'm almost done with my Remix fic? I just today realized that it's co-written. This is so funny except in the way that it's completely not. At all. I still intend to post the fic on my journal after Remix authors are revealed because dude I did not just spend all this time writing for naught, but as for the actual ficathon, I have to start. completely. over. Which I probably could handle as a minor yet very disappointing annoyance in failing to READ for chrissakes except that

2. I got an very snarky email from my former director in response to my request for help preparing for job interviews that reads in part:

Isn't it a bit premature to be worrying about interviews? Search processes have to be conducted first. Also you would be great in any interview. Just be yourself. I can't think of any other advice to offer.

Wow, Dr. __. Thanks. A lot. I love so much that not only did you suggest that I'm wasting my time applying for these jobs to begin with, I adore that you are refusing to help me prepare for the interviews (THAT I WILL GET, DAMMIT!). I've never interviewed for an academic job and I would appreciate a little heads up on what to expect and what kinds of answers committees like to hear; a little mock-interviewing might be nice. But I'm so glad that my winning personality will preclude any kind of preparedness. In conclusion, thanks so much for making me throw up with the worry that you have also written me poor reccommendation letters. 'k thanx, Lorraine

So, in light of all that, let's make Lorraine feel better, shall we? I noticed on [livejournal.com profile] musesfool's journal when I was poking around trying to refresh myself on the Remix rules that she made a poll that asked her flist to choose a favorite of her fics and explain why they liked it. We could do that. That would be good.

*sigh*

1. I signed up for Remix! This will be the first big multi-fandom ficathon I've participated in. I've done the odd challenge or ficathon here and there but nothing that's such a fandom institution. I'm excited but also a little nervous.

2. Some anonymous awesome person said very nice things about me in a Valentines Day Meme I almost didn't see.

3. Because of my dialup I have lots of trouble looking for icons. I have really been wanting a Keller icon and I can't find one I like enough to upload. Part of the reason is that I think of icons as permanent; I try to only upload the ones I feel very strongly about. The rest of the reason is that I have this black and white and red icon aesthetic going on and most of the ones I have seen of her are colored. So, have you guys seen any icon posts with textless black and white icons of Keller? Or, I know that lots you enjoy making icons yourself. *bats eyelashes* I'm interested in black and white, textless icons in which Keller is distinguishable from Kaylee. For that matter, if you guys know of any great Caldwell icons that would also be appreciated.

4. Finally, I got some down time and my Bates/Kavanagh LOVE EACH OTHER SO MUCH trilogy is currently stalled at, "PETER!!!! OMG Finally I know what name to moan BECAUSE IT'S PRINTED ON YOUR SHIRT!" So, prompt me people. SGA or SPN, please. Give me a pairing and something to go on. A scenario, a song, a quote, some adjectives, a sexual position. LOL
lunabee34: (b7 it waits by executrix)
1. New icon! Lookee! *points* This is a scene from “Rumours of Death,” the absolute best episode of B7 that I’ve seen so far—Avon’s all intense and lethal and Servalan is so freaking hot tied up on that wall with bruises all over her face. Yum! “It’s an old wall. It waits.” Thank you [livejournal.com profile] executrix!

2. I got two pages of comments on Thantopsis! I have never, ever gotten two pages of comments on an entry that wasn’t meta! I am so in love with myself right now. LOL

3. Some entries for my No Pressure SPN Ficathon have come in, so check those stories out. Good stuff, people, and hopefully more entries to appear by this weekend.

4. Andy put up a teaser trailer for the movie we've been shooting here: Synchronicity Teaser. I'm the chick at the very end with the longer hair, which is super specific, I know. LOL I can't actually watch it myself due to dialup. I don't think I'm in this clip much, but it's a great scene.

5. Spoilers for Shortbus )

6. Spoilers for SPN episode: Heart )

Please leave me a raw link to your fic, the fic's pairing, and a rating! Thank you all for participating, and I hope everyone finds something they'd like to read.

Here's the way this will work:

Take a looksee at the prompt list and get inspired. Write a fic or ten two--anything from a drabble to a novel-length epic. Any incarnation of SPN fic is fair game--from het to slash to gen to crossovers to RPF (if you can find a way to make that work with any of these prompts). Post a link to what you've written to the Fic Masterlist Post I'll make on March 18, and enjoy what everyone else's written. This is no-pressure. You're not writing for anyone but yourself; you don't even have to tell me if you're going to participate (although I would like to gauge the interest in this project), so no worries if you find the muse leaves you hanging. Please pimp this out. The more people that participate, the more fun it will be.

Masterlist of Lorraine's No-Pressure Ficathon Prompts )

I am having so much fun with SPN right now, I thought I'd host a no-pressure ficathon. This is the way it'll work:

1. Respond to this post with a plot bunny--something you've been really wanting someone to write. This ficathon will include all possible incarnations of SPN fic, from het to gen to slash to crossovers to RPF. (See my comment below for an example of what I mean). Responding with a plot bunny does not obligate you to write anything! So fire away.

2. I'll post a masterlist of all the fic ideas I get on Thursday morning.

3. Take a looksee at the list and get inspired. Write a fic or ten two--anything from a drabble to a novel-length epic. Post a link to what you've written to the Fic Masterlist Post I'll make on March 18, and enjoy what everyone else's written. This is no-pressure. You're not writing for anyone but yourself; you don't even have to tell me if you're going to participate (although I would like to gauge the interest in this project), so no worries if you find the muse leaving you hanging.

4. Pimp this out. The more people that participate, the more fun it will be.
