I finally decided which story I want to remix yesterday and am about halfway through with the writing. I've got the whole thing plotted out, though. I'm extremely pleased with myself. :)

Josh and I watched The Heat the other night with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. It was fantastic, y'all. One of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. We were literally howling with laughter. I thought it had some wonderful moments of poignancy where you might not expect to find them. And even though it's a comedy and contains ridiculous and over-the-top element, I think there was a subtle message there about police officers being more effective when they police the communities they also live in; they're doubly invested and they're part of the fabric of life there and in tune to the cultural mores that surround them. Now I want to see Spy. I have heard such good things about that movie, and the NPR review makes it sound like the shit, but those trailers are god-awful and don't seem to bear any relationship to the things people are saying make the movie so good.

I just started reading Garth Nix's Abhorsen trilogy; it starts with Sabriel. Anybody else read these?

What are y'all reading and watching? Rec me some stuff.

I liked the Abhorsen trilogy quite a bit. I couldn't, however, get through Clariel which is set centuries before Sabriel. Something, I'm not entirely sure what, put me off.

Sabriel stands well on its own, but Lirael and Abhorsen are actually one book chopped in two. You might want to make sure you have both of them on hand.

I do think that the Old Kingdom would make a great role playing setting.

I really liked Spy, but I was less taken by The Heat (for reasons), so I'll be interested to hear what you think of the former. :-)

It's more that I don't like watching LEOs breaking the rules and being assholes. I don't like it when it's men, and I still don't like it when the characters are women. /stick-in-the-mud

(I mean, I get that it's part of the genre, and I have no problem with the movie in principle; women have just as much right to be assholes as men do. It's just not a genre that works for me.)

For all that, I did have a favourite line: "That is not an accurate description of my vagina." :-D

Everyone seems to be crazy about Daredevil, but it does not seem to depict appropriate conduct for members of the New York Bar, irrespective of their sensory and super-sensory condition.

Just going by fandom osmosis, yes, it's Matt Murdock, Esq. and his law school buddy (boyfriend?) Foggy Esq. Also he goes to confession a lot, I don't know why his confessor doesn't point out that there's the opposite of a frequent-flyer discount, you're supposed to STOP DOING WHATEVER IT IS YOU FEEL GUILTY ABOUT.

i just started re-watching the batman animated series from the 1990s.
i'm not currently reading anything, but recently got finished with once a grand duchess: xenia, sister of nicholas II by john van der kiste & coryne hall. if you like that era or have an interest in royalty, it's pretty interesting.

I've read the Abhorsen trilogy, but not anything else by Nix. How far are you?
