So Star Wars 2 was renamed to Star Wars Episode V: The Epire Strikes Back and Star Wars was later rereleased in theaters under the name Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Lucas would later explain that he had this whole story planned out from the start and that he started in the middle but always planned to go back and tell the beginning part.
