I can't watch the prequels. Jar Jar killed the fandom for me. That and that whole midichlorians thing they switched to.

Yeah, I know a lot of people nowadays grew up with the prequels and have affection for them, but it's really hard to overestimate HOW BAD Episode I was and how much it killed enthusiasm for the movies (yeah, even though they made a lot of money, because that's always the big defense).

And the SW worldbuilding was always....ahem, but the midchloridians thing was racist AND made no sense!

I feel like I blanked something out of my mind. It made no sense, but it was racist?

I will NEVER be over "cause of death: lost the will to live." At this point it's literally the only thing I remember about the movie (well, that and the lava scene) because of the pure condensed mind-boggling stupidity.

From what I remember that movie really almost killed Portman's career and it took her a long while to recover. (Pity that couldn't happen to Jar Jar.)

i heard the actor that played jar-jar was threatened by a lot of fans.

and the kid who played young vader basically had his life ruined.

they really should've tried to keep lucas' input to a minimum with the prequels.

I'm not really sure how they should deal with CF's death -- I hope it's with restraint and respect that honors the actress and the great character she created from the script.

Don't think I've read any crossovers - will have to ponder that.

The only things I remember fondly from those abysmal prequels are Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor. I've tried to block the rest out - Lucas may be a visionary but execution ... sigh.

I, uh, seem to be in the minority here in that I do like the Prequels; they were my primary fandom for a couple of years and still my go-to area of fic fandom. They have a solid story but the scriptwriting-- especially the first two-- needs work. I say this as a fan of the OT first. But I'm a huge fan of the Jedi, so... (That said: midicholrians? What midicholrians? And I will never forgive Lucas for Padme's death.)

As for crossovers... Let's just say I've posted a couple and have Drawerfic ficlets for every single fandom I've ever written for that isn't SW.

the_emu: Qui-Gon and Jar Jar fucking, canon (quijar)
From: [personal profile] the_emu
There's plenty of rubbish in there, but I like the prequels a hell of a lot more than the original trilogy. They have Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Amidala, who I like much better than Luke, Han or Leia. (I like all three of them in the new movies, couldn't stand them in the originals.) TPM has the Duel of the Fates battle with Maul, which is the best part out of all of the Star Wars universe. I like the big vagina stadium scene in AotC. And that hilarious scene where Amidala's dressed up like a bondage queen telling Anakin he can't have her.

Amidala was great in the first two. Such a pity she was turned simpering and useless in the third. Apparently there was a scene where she was going behind Anakin's back to start the resistance; can't remember if it was shot or not, but damn I wish it had been in there. It adds a real interesting tension to her telling Anakin not to keep secrets, and makes her uselessness a cunning front while she does something of consequence other than give birth.

Jar Jar is kind of a stupid character, but he's for kids, so whatever. He's not nearly as toxic as Jake Lloyd's Anakin. Lucas was a monster to put that poor talentless kid in that role.
