beauty recs

1. I am very proud of myself. When Fiona dropped my phone and shattered the bottom of the screen at the end of April, I just shrugged and put some scotch tape over it and went on with life. I am not about to spend 300-500 dollars to replace it since it still functions, and the tape has prevented the cracks from spreading and also my finger from getting shredded. When my laptop suffered the bluescreen of death at the end of April right before finals, I also just shrugged and got the previous laptop out of the closet. It functions just fine except that the top of it is hanging on by a thread to the bottom of it (after I dropped it years ago *woe woe*), so it can only be used on the desk as a stationary object with something behind the top propping it up. As of right now, I don't plan to replace it any time soon because . . . we have to replace our AC. I was hoping we could go one more year, but alack and alas, no. So we're getting a heat pump instead of a traditional AC, and because that'll be like 8k, I'm just going to deal with the old laptop for awhile, probably until Christmas. But all these things would have sent me into an anxiety spiral a year ago (something about tech/appliance failure makes my lizard brain go into flight mode), and I am handling them with a degree of calm that surprises me and makes me think my medicine is probably working. LOL

2. Y'all, menopause is making my hair curly. It's nuts. So far it's mostly curly on the sides in the front from the crown to about chin-level, which is annoying because my hair is really long. So it's this bizarre half and half thing where the bottom half is a smidge wavy and the back is maybe a little wavy but not really, but the sides are curling up pretty good. If it continues to get wavier/curlier, I'll probably cut it shorter and see if I can roll with the curly/wavy. I found this awesome product, though, that if your hair is wavy/curly, you should give a try: Odele Air Dry Styler. You just put it in towel-dried hair and let it air dry. I was shocked by the degree to which it amplified the curliness of my hair.

3. I would also like to recommend Dr. Teal's Lemon Balm Epsom Salts. OMG, y'all this smells so good. The bathroom smelled amazing for two days after I used this. Just be sure to never let Epsom salts get on your hair; they will dry it the fuck out.

Go, you, for maintaining the chill! That is awesome.

I love Dr Teal's Epsom salt bubble bath, so I will keep an eye out for the lemon. That's one of my fave scents.

(So far all menopause is doing to me is acne, argh.)

Ooo I've never heard of Lemon Epsom salts before! That sounds delightful. Will investigate.

I'm sorry for the electronic mishaps, but go you on the forging-on spirit!

Congratulations on having achieved Satori! When you do decide to replace your phone, consider signing up with Credo Mobile because they have decent prices on phones, and donate lots of money every month to progressive causes. Anybody (not just their customers) can vote for the next month's grantees.

An older model reconditioned laptop might be pretty kinda affordable, although it's true that Christmas is coming rushing up sooner than we think.

Yay for being so calm! *hugs*

And that's fascinating about youir hair getting curly! And I wish that product was available here so I could try it; I had a great air dry styler years ago (over a decade now, wow), but it was discontinued, and I've never been able to find another one that was as good and didn't weigh down my hair.

I'm right there with you. And I'm glad I'm not the only one with a spare laptop! It is VERY old at this point, I'm amazed it's even still running, but I'm keeping it for as long as possible. My livelihood means I need computer access.

Yay you for keeping calm!

I hear you on the electronics - I'm pretty sure my laptop battery has started swelling again. It was replaced 2 years ago so it's the new one doing it, and at this point, I think I will just get a new laptop at some point this year instead of paying to install a new battery again in a machine that is 7 years old and will just cause the new one to swell too.

1) Way to keep zen!

2) Hormones are so weird! So far, my hair is still pretty much the same, but who knows?

Wow, you are dealing with a lot of tech failure and you are absolutely handling it like a pro.

I had that happen to my laptop a few years ago, but luckily "my" laptop is property of the university and they decided that it might be hazardous where the hinge was broken so they gave me a new one. I would totally freak out over laptop damage -- do you have desktops set up in your classrooms so you don't have to worry about bringing it in to use in class?

Hmm, I've never heard of menopausal hair texture changes, but it sounds really nice, or like it will be once you and it get accustomed to each other.

That's awesome! I feel like I should train with you, Obi-Lorraine. <3

Ohhh, Air Dry Styler -- intriguing! I wonder if it would make my hair even curlier. (Mine used to have a slight wave and is now out of control. /o\)

Ah, but the best gurus are like that, aren't they? People who are naturally Zen are no good because they can't understand the struggle and the journey.

(I now have four air-dryer tabs open, help. *g*)

I'm sorry you're having technical difficulties but I'm proud you're rising about them. With the way this year is going, Christmas will be here before you know it!

I have cowlicks on my head that seem to get worse as I get older. Annoying as heck.

Sigh. I need to win the lottery so I can have a house with a walk-in bath. That lemon balm sounds so nice!

Cool about the body wash! I'll have to remember that when I need to buy soap again. I got a four-pack of Florida Water soaps that I'm currently loving on right now.

It's based on Florida Water cologne which many people use to drive off negativity and bring in good luck and money. So of course I bathe in it! LOL!

The birthday fairy is delivering early! Expect something Saturday!

Of course, Amazon messes up again. I had it set where your gift will come in one box and Amazon shipped it in three and one will get there today. I hope you'll like it!

It says here that it's out for delivery. Do you get mail on Sundays still? That would be awesome if you had it for your tea.

Hugs to you, birthday girl!
