1. I am very proud of myself. When Fiona dropped my phone and shattered the bottom of the screen at the end of April, I just shrugged and put some scotch tape over it and went on with life. I am not about to spend 300-500 dollars to replace it since it still functions, and the tape has prevented the cracks from spreading and also my finger from getting shredded. When my laptop suffered the bluescreen of death at the end of April right before finals, I also just shrugged and got the previous laptop out of the closet. It functions just fine except that the top of it is hanging on by a thread to the bottom of it (after I dropped it years ago *woe woe*), so it can only be used on the desk as a stationary object with something behind the top propping it up. As of right now, I don't plan to replace it any time soon because . . . we have to replace our AC. I was hoping we could go one more year, but alack and alas, no. So we're getting a heat pump instead of a traditional AC, and because that'll be like 8k, I'm just going to deal with the old laptop for awhile, probably until Christmas. But all these things would have sent me into an anxiety spiral a year ago (something about tech/appliance failure makes my lizard brain go into flight mode), and I am handling them with a degree of calm that surprises me and makes me think my medicine is probably working. LOL
2. Y'all, menopause is making my hair curly. It's nuts. So far it's mostly curly on the sides in the front from the crown to about chin-level, which is annoying because my hair is really long. So it's this bizarre half and half thing where the bottom half is a smidge wavy and the back is maybe a little wavy but not really, but the sides are curling up pretty good. If it continues to get wavier/curlier, I'll probably cut it shorter and see if I can roll with the curly/wavy. I found this awesome product, though, that if your hair is wavy/curly, you should give a try: Odele Air Dry Styler. You just put it in towel-dried hair and let it air dry. I was shocked by the degree to which it amplified the curliness of my hair.
3. I would also like to recommend Dr. Teal's Lemon Balm Epsom Salts. OMG, y'all this smells so good. The bathroom smelled amazing for two days after I used this. Just be sure to never let Epsom salts get on your hair; they will dry it the fuck out.

I love Dr Teal's Epsom salt bubble bath, so I will keep an eye out for the lemon. That's one of my fave scents.
(So far all menopause is doing to me is acne, argh.)

Dr. Teal's seems to mirror all the scents in salts and bubble bath, so I'm sure they make a bubble bath version of this one. I have long loved the Eucalyptus and Spearmint, and I didn't even know they made other scents until recently.
I am so so fortunate that because of my thyroid condition, I have almost never had acne in my life. I had a smidgen as a teen and when preggo (and I get the occasional clogged pore that isn't acne per se) but it has not been a problem for me. Instead I have dry dry dry dry skin everywhere. Which is its own sort of misery. LOL

I'm sorry for the electronic mishaps, but go you on the forging-on spirit!

I do not know whence cometh the chill but I will taketh it. :)

An older model reconditioned laptop might be pretty kinda affordable, although it's true that Christmas is coming rushing up sooner than we think.

I think I will go for something new just because I want to be sure it lasts. And then this one can go back in the closet for the next inevitable breakdown. LOL

And that's fascinating about youir hair getting curly! And I wish that product was available here so I could try it; I had a great air dry styler years ago (over a decade now, wow), but it was discontinued, and I've never been able to find another one that was as good and didn't weigh down my hair.

Apparently, hormonal changes can change people's hair! Puberty, pregnancy, and menopause often change people's hair from straight to curly and vice versa. It happened with Dylan; their hair went from straight to curly at puberty, but it didn't last. It was only curly really for the duration of the initial blast of hormones, so maybe for a couple years?
I am experimenting with stuff because I have absolutely no idea how to take care of wavy hair or how to style it to its full potential. I think I am at a 2A right now, and it's just getting wavier. So exciting.

Fortunately, we live five minutes from work, and I can always go up there to my office; Josh has a laptop and so does Dylan, so I can also share theirs if needed.
But having this backup is wonderful.

I hear you on the electronics - I'm pretty sure my laptop battery has started swelling again. It was replaced 2 years ago so it's the new one doing it, and at this point, I think I will just get a new laptop at some point this year instead of paying to install a new battery again in a machine that is 7 years old and will just cause the new one to swell too.

I think you are so right; just get a new one and be done with all the drama. :)

Meds are wonderful. I would be up the creek without mine.

2) Hormones are so weird! So far, my hair is still pretty much the same, but who knows?

Hormones are very weird! Puberty and pregnancy didn't change my hair, so IDK why menopause is doing it.

I had that happen to my laptop a few years ago, but luckily "my" laptop is property of the university and they decided that it might be hazardous where the hinge was broken so they gave me a new one. I would totally freak out over laptop damage -- do you have desktops set up in your classrooms so you don't have to worry about bringing it in to use in class?
Hmm, I've never heard of menopausal hair texture changes, but it sounds really nice, or like it will be once you and it get accustomed to each other.

All the classrooms are set up with PCs that control all the tech in the room, so I don't have to worry about bringing in a laptop, and my office has a PC, too, so I'm covered for work.
Apparently, hormones can cause hair changes: puberty, pregnancy and menopause. So weird. It's definitely a learning curve, and I've got a lot to learn about how to style this new wavy hair. I think I'm at a 2A right now, and I need to figure out what to do to maximize the waves.

That's awesome! I feel like I should train with you, Obi-Lorraine. <3
Ohhh, Air Dry Styler -- intriguing! I wonder if it would make my hair even curlier. (Mine used to have a slight wave and is now out of control. /o\)

I bet it would control the curls somewhat, make it curlier perhaps, but more defined. If you can't get this brand where you are, there's tons of versions of this product out there. I'm sure you could google a listicle of the best air dry stylers. :) Report back if you do!!

(I now have four air-dryer tabs open, help. *g*)

Could you get this where you are? It looks intriguing:

I have cowlicks on my head that seem to get worse as I get older. Annoying as heck.
Sigh. I need to win the lottery so I can have a house with a walk-in bath. That lemon balm sounds so nice!

Josh's family has cowlicks, and it's not so bad with his short hair or Dylan's, and his mother keeps her hair really short in a pixie. But poor Fi has longer hair and it just goes every which way. LOL
Oh, shoot. You do need a walk in bath. But wait! sThey make it in a shower gel, too!
