June Update
1. I had a good birthday. I got flowers (which are still going strong!) and a Star Trek card game from
sweettartheart and cards from
lyr,
decynthus, and
princessofgeeks. Thank y'all! I also got lots of stationery stuff (a friend gave me a Yamamoto paper tasting set, Josh gave me a leather notebook cover, and I got various notecards and notebooks). The kids gave me amazing cards. The one they drew together said on the front, "You're Old," and inside it said, "But You're Crushing It!" and they drew a picture of Wesley Crusher. This goes in the save forever pile.
2. I know one of my requests for Yuletide already. Mom and Dad watch westerns on True Grit pretty much 24-7, and this visit featured The Posse from Hell--the gayest cowboy movie that doesn't realize how gay it is of all time. I mean, y'all, the seasoned gunslinger tends lovingly to the greenhorn's butt wounds at one point, and they frequently stare into each other's eyes and kinda pant into each other's mouths, and THEY ARE SO IN LOVE WITH EACH OTHER.
3. I also want to request Star Trek Prodigy. We just finished the two-season series when we got back from my folks. I can't say enough good things about this show--from the callbacks to every Trek franchise and the little Easter eggs to all the voice actor/character cameos, this show is just a delight. I love that it is joyful and hopeful and kind; it's firmly a kids' show, but who cares? It's just an excellent watch. I highly recommend it.
4. Mom and Dad's was fine. They didn't turn on that horrific American Family Radio even one time, and there was zero craziness (which proves to me that when they're scared of losing contact with their grandchildren they do possess the ability to keep their mouths shut for a couple of days). They are clearly on the back foot and concerned that we're going to cut them out of their lives. Not gonna lie; it made for a much more pleasant trip.

And I am also very glad your parents behaved themselves and realized they need to be nice and not insulting!!!
Thanks for the update; I was thinking about you all.

And Prodigy is so good, yeah! I love it - joyful and hopeful and kind, indeed!

It's such a good show. We blew through it so quickly because I couldn't wait to see what would happen next.

I am so glad to hear that your visit with your Mom and Dad was okay. Whew. Still, I can imagine it's a project to bring your shoulders down from your ears afterwards, so I hope that there is delight and pleasure right now.

You are right about that. I worked myself up into an anxious tizzy before we went, and I've been exhausted since we got back. I think it's all the adrenaline leaving.

I'm glad things were fine with your parents. I'm sure it's hard, but I am glad they're making an effort for you and the kids.

I'm glad they made an effort, too. I usually spend visits to them seething, and it was nice not to have to do that this time.

I had to look up that movie and chuckled when I discovered it was an Audie Murphy movie! They do Audie marathons on INSP all the time! Though I haven't caught glimpses of that particular scene. *g*
I'm glad your parents learned the benefit of keeping their mouths shut for a couple of days and you had a good visit.

It might have been INSP instead of True Grit because it was part of an Audie Murphy marathon. LOL
I'm glad it was a chill visit, too. It was nice not to spend the whole visit quietly angry.

I love stationery so much. Doesn't matter how much I've got. I can always use more. LOL

The card from your kids sounds utterly delightful!
Also, great news about your parents.

I have the best kids. Not that I'm biased or anything. LOL

Okay, I don't like Westerns that much, but I'm tempted by this one.
Glad you had an okay visit! Can you maybe reward them with something to get them to keep it up? LOL!

I'm so sorry for your loss. As much as my parents are a source of anxiety for me, I know I will still miss them when they are gone.

Ohhhh, I've been meaning to watch Star Trek Prodigy ... Thanks for the positive review, I'm gonna see if I can seek it out!

Prodigy just left Netflix, and I think it went to whatever streaming service all the Trek stuff is on now, I forget which one. Paramount, maybe?
It's just so good. It's got references to every single franchise and the original characters are so good. I just love it so so much. I'm in a place where I want cute and happy, and this fits the bill.

Though apparently you managed despite your parents, but Iām glad they managed to keep quiet and learn some tact.
Also that cowboy film sounds hilarious, the sort of thing I would watch with Jay and point out all the slashy potential while he is (pretends to be) outraged at my misreading of the Manly Nature of Western Filmology.

I really do have the best kids. I'm so so lucky. I know you know what that's like because you have the best kid, too.
That movie was so fun. Dylan was sitting right beside me on the couch, and we kept texting each other how gay each thing was as it happened so my parents wouldn't know what we were talking about. LOL It was really funny.
