Vid recs and SGA: Broken Ties (a solid C)
SGA: I like to move it by HMatlova
I unabasedly love this song. I really, really love this song. This is a stupid song. That I also really love. This vid perfectly captures the frenetic energy of the music. Besides, don't you wanna watch Teyla beat people up, like all the time?
SGA: Another One Bites the Dust by Phenix00princess
Well edited. Awesome song. Team McShep kicking ass. *loves*
Dr. Horrible: the Early Years
This vid is precious. I wanna squish this kid.
Overall, I thought this was a subpar episode. I will lead off with the reasons why so that I can end with the few things I did really like.
Thumbs Down
1. Where are Ronon and Teyla when he's kidnapped? It's a wee thing, but what were they doing?
2. They would never, ever, ever in a million years let Tyre go with them to rescue Ronon. Letting him do so is very, very stupid. That whole scene makes Sheppard look like a ginormous dumbass. You are not Dean Winchester, John. You cannot look into his eyes and see the goodness inside. Because not even Dean Winchester can really do that.
3. Tyre being cured simply by allowing his addiction to Wraith feeding to physically disipate is LAME. I like that they tied the addiction to the enzyme; we already know that Wraith enzyme is highly addictive and so stating explictly that what Worshippers get out of the experience is the flood of enzyme during each feeding was a nice touch. However, anyone who's ever been addicted to anything can tell you that just because the alcohol is out of your system doesn't mean you stop wanting a drink. Also, psychological indoctrination and fuckedupedness doesn't just disappear because you've been chained to a bed for..... hmmmm.
4. The passage of time here is screwy. Does this episode span days? Weeks?
5. I refuse to believe that Ronon would take such a short amount of time to be indoctrinated. Even Ford, as bug ass crazy as he ended up from the enzyme, didn't start loving the Wraith. I find it hard to believe that in a couple weeks, Ronon became a Wraith worshipper.
Stuff I Did Like
1. I am so pleased that Kanaan is not getting the Katie Brown treatment. I had suspected that they would leave him in limbo in quarantine for the forseeable future and I know the only reason they're really writing him into the episodes is to give Teyla a plausible place to dump her baby, but I'm still glad they're showing him and showing Teyla talk about him like he's a real person. And his speech about Teyla's responsibility to the peoples of Pegasus made me tear up.
2. I really like Teyla's struggle with her position on the team. She's worried about Kanaan supporting her and what he will want her to do. I love when John tells her she's got to stop waffling, that he'll support her either way but that she has to choose.
3. Woolsey continues to be awesome. I love the little touches with Atlantis not responding to him--closing the doors in his face. The way he doesn't exactly know the layout yet. I like getting more backstory for him--divorced, loves dogs (or at least one Yorkie in particular!). The image of him holding that baby made me very happy.
4. The throwaway line about Ronon stunning Dr. Garrett at his surprise birthday party. Sheppard's, "It would be really creepy and unexpected if you knelt instead."
5. Rodney in the bath. John and Rodney talking about Rodney in the bath. Rodney in the bath.
6. The way the team all pulls together when Ronon is detoxing. The look of pain on all their faces is so, wow. Powerful.
7. The music over the montage is beautiful.
