Five for Friday

1. I received my letters from the Letter Writing Challenge! I got a fantastic letter from [personal profile] leesa_perrie all about her childhood pet rabbit along with some cool butterfly stickers that I am absolutely not allowing Fiona to have. I also got a wonderful letter from [personal profile] teaotter, which is a tour of her bookshelves, along with this gorgeous card. I hope to start hearing soon from my fellow challenge participants about their correspondence.

2. Shopping for birthday gifts for two RL friends who share the same birthday went well today. We'll have a little party on Sunday night right before we watch Downton Abbey.

3. Emma ran much better at her race yesterday. Her time was faster, but she also just looked different when she was running--less sluggish and more fierce than earlier in the season. She was really pleased with herself, and so was I. Fiona told her, "I'm so proud of you. You run very fast."

4. I enjoyed NCIS this week. I'm never going to enjoy it as well as I did before Ziva left, but I am enjoying the new team dynamic and that they decided that whatever emotional journey they wanted to take Gibbs on last season is over. LOL I love Gibbs and Fornell as platonic life partners ("You'll ruin the mood.") He can wear Gibbs's clothes and cook him dinner every episode as far as I'm concerned. Fandom better be writing all the roomie fanfic ever. (Gibbs and Fornell is kinda like O'Neill and Maybourne for me; they have way more chemistry with each other in my subjective opinion than they do any of the other characters they are generally slashed with.) The sister angle of this episode made me a little emotional because that's essentially the age difference between Emma and Fiona. Also, Abby has steadily become such a nothing character, and I don't know why. According to numerous polls, she's one of the most popular television characters of all time, and yet they stopped giving her character-developing episodes seasons ago. I don't understand. She's always gotten on my nerves just a little bit because she seems infantilized a lot of the time to me, but I always enjoyed her character when they let her do something beyond drink caf pow and talk about sleeping in a coffin. Now she's barely in episodes anymore. IDK just weird to me. (Maybe if I try I can use the word enjoy again in this review.)

5. A review of the Urban Decay Anti-Aging Eyeshadow Primer Potion. The primers I've used before are silicone based, I think, and operate on the same principle as icing a cake: you can cover up any imperfections in the surface of the cake by spreading on the icing. These primers make your skin have a soft, velvety texture. The Urban Decay primer has a totally different texture. It's rough and tacky almost. Rather than your shadow sliding on, it instantly sticks. The primer works; my eyeshadow lasts and doesn't crease. But it took some getting used to because I generally blend my eyeshadow, and shadow just stays on where you put it. You can't really blend it into another color or do a slow fade upwards if that makes any sense (not without applying a whole lot more shadow than I want to, at any rate). So, I give it an 87/100.

I'm liking the new team dynamic and Fornell can live on that couch forever, whether Gibbs sleeps there too or not.

I think that they will go light on the main cast so we can get to know the new people more. With Abby they've been in and out over the years. Now that she's got the new brother, I expect to see some more of her personal life, later in the season.

What I'm really wondering about is the passing of Gary Glasberg. He's been the show runner since 2011 (and a writer since 2009). He's also responsible for NCIS:NOLA which to me captured the vibe of everything I loved from early NCIS. I think he erased a lot of the not exactly pleased attitude I had with Shane Brennan who was show runner from 2009 and went on to create NCIS:LA, which is not the same.

I always love to see more Ducky and Abby. The nature of the show has always made them more secondary players. Both David and Pauley have talked about how little time they spend on the set. It's just their roles in the investigation tend to be less. I think that when the show decides to make them the focal point of an episode, we remember it more because it is special.

That said, I think we're much more likely to see more Abby than Ducky. A few years back when they were renegotiating contracts, there was a big ta do over David's. We never heard the specific details, but the belief was that he wanted to work less. David's now 83. The fact is that Palmer has been strategically positioned to take over when David says he's done. But the last couple of years there has always been a Ducky episode, so I wouldn't expect that to change.

I so agree with you about O'Neill and Maybourne (have always said they have the best chemistry, even if my mind doesn't want to go any further :) and yes, I can see it with Gibbs and Fornell (haven't watch much since S9-10, even though I love Mcgee best and he's still there)

:) There are just some characters I adore to death but do not want to imagine naked... Harry is one of them (not sure why, Vila from Blakes 7 is another, which made for fun when I was revieweing fanzines are Avon/Vila was on the menu...)
