1. Josh got promoted to Senior Lecturer!!!!!! I have been so worried about this and what it might mean for us if he was denied this promotion. Our system has a rule that you can only be a Lecturer for ten years unless you are promoted to Senior Lecturer, which made me really nervous. I am so proud of him and so relieved and so grateful. This is huge. I cried when he opened the letter.
2. Six months ago, the light and fan in the study stopped working. A friend came over to repair it today, and it was, ah, a dead battery in the wall panel. *headdesk* :)
3. Yesterday Fiona told me she wants to marry a boy who is nice but rich and older than she is but smaller than she is. *dies laughing*

I'm almost certain where the smaller thing is coming from is that Fiona has this rivalry with her sister; she's constantly saying that she hopes she gets taller than Emma when she grows up. So she sees it as some kind of winning thing to be taller. In other words and as a surprise to no one, I think Fiona wants to be the boss (she will clearly have rigidly defined rules for who tops and bottoms when she gets into fandom LOL).

Academia just loves putting us through the wringer. I was at an actual social event yesterday -- picnic in the park (same one Marty works at) for a friend's birthday -- chatting with a Victorianist who dissertated about Browning but now teaches FYW almost exclusively.

I also wanted to say that the ep was good even outside of that little tidbit. We met Ben's mom and one of his brothers, and there were pics of the four of them as littles. It felt like a cool family ep.
