This is meta RPF at its best and most deliciously erotic. David is struck with the urge to start writing scenes for Joe, scenes in which he attempts to lay bare Joe's inner workings, what makes him tick, what he'd do in X situation. Surprisingly to Joe, not only does David get him right, Joe anxiously awaits the next installment because there's something thrilling about David understanding him so well. What's incredibly awesome about this fic is that we've got both David and Joe standing in for us, the fanficcers, at various points. David writes these scenes and he GETS JOE RIGHT, he gets JF's unspoken approval for what he's written. David also has a hell of a time turning himself on with these scenes he's writing--he feels like in some ways he's crossing a line with Joe and that's as much of a thrill as imagining Joe actually doing the things he's writing for him. Finally, Joe is a consumer in this fic, just like we are. He reads and responds emotionally to everything David's written; there's even a smoking hot masturbation scene toward the end which I feel is one of the most striking scenes I've read in RPF. Many layered, this piece, and much fun to read.

In this story, David and Joe are working on a script together and find the lines between their characters and themselves very much blurred. I'm reminded a lot of "The Untitled Jared Padalecki Project," which is one of my favorite SPN RPFs. I really like the notion of Joe embuing his character with so much of himself that he eventually cannot tell which emotions are his and which are courtesy of the character. It's a lovely, twisty thing with great payoff at the end.
