This is a death fic. It begins with Jack's death and then follows Daniel as he comes to terms with his grief. What's so incredibly lovely about this piece is that it seems incredibly plausible. It explains the tension between the two characters in later seasons in terms of their inability to act on their feelings for each other and then shows us the beautiful vision Jack had of a future for them that will never be. *cries*

The Weight of Things by [livejournal.com profile] troyswann; Jack/Daniel; Adult
The narrative structure of this piece is really interesting--interlocking vignettes titled seemingly randomly (I think the titles were all words her flist suggested for prompts) that fit together to form a really compelling version of this relationship. This fic is not afraid of the angst by any means because let's face it. These men have a lot of angst to overcome as the series progresses. But it ends in such a wonderful, happy place. So full of joy this ending.

For Each Ecstatic Instant by dith; Jack/Daniel; Adult
I almost didn't rec this fic because it hurts so damn much I don't think I can read it again. But on the chance that you guys haven't seen it, I decided to rec it because the writing is absolutely stellar. I think writing a fic like this, where the main pairing is deeply in love with other but never manages to make a relationship, is deeply gutsy. Remember how I was having trouble finding a Jack in fic that I believe in? I believe in this Jack. This version of Jack is very real to me, and the decisions he and Daniel make are very plausible and those things combine to make this hurt me even more. Y'all have seriously got to read this. It will just kill you dead.
