something wholly and completely and horribly unrecognizable?

Yeah.

I have had very little cause to quibble with Voyager. It has brought me almost pure, unadulterated joy. Up until now, even when the show is bad, there's something to love about it. Tom and Janeway turn into monsters and have alligator catfish babies? Dumbest plot ever, but we get some really interesting character work about Tom *before* he impregnates his captain with aquarium spawn.

But this? This? *rage*

What they did to Kes was inexcusable and inexplicable. It is the sloppiest and most useless sort of retcon I've ever seen in sci-fi. I refuse to believe anything about this episode. It makes absolutely no sense within the context of the show. I refuse to believe that Janeway could "forget" that one of her friends was going to show up in three years and try to kill them all. I refuse to believe that Tuvok and Janeway knew about Naomi and Seven and even the Borg children before they arrive. I refuse to believe that Kes could become the one dimensional villain we see in this episode. I am disgusted beyond belief. Why in the hell did that actor agree to come back to the show only to be portrayed in this way? *vomits*
