In this future AU, Voldemort is not defeated in Neville's 7th year at Hogwarts; instead, his power and influence only increase, the members of the Order forced to operate (and even live) as clandestinely as they did when evading the Snatchers. The Order is broken and weary, and no one exemplifies that so well as a Remus who has lost utterly everything--Sirius, Tonks, his own desire to survive. Enter one Neville Longbottom who is as stalwart and affable and endearing as a reader could hope for, and that's exactly what Remus ends up with: hope. Very emotionally satisfying.
Distraction by
kaalee; HP; Neville/Seamus; Rish; short
These little slices of Seamus and Neville are so satisfying--the very terrible trauma that connects them, the solace they find in each other, and the very sweet fumblings towards something powerful and real. Wonderful read.

I am a sucker for second person that works. Like
kaalee's previous fic, this one is also composed of vignettes. I feel almost as if I've been allowed to sneak a peek here and there through Neville's curtains--a flash here and there of what he's thinking, what's he's doing over nearly three decades. This writer is truly gifted.
Getting Better at Being Better by
emiime; HP; Percy/Anthony/Neville; R; short
I freely admit that part of this story is missing, but I think the elision works. It's not quite apparent how the relationship among the three characters changes from the middle to the end, but the change is quite poignant despite that omission. This is told from Percy's point of view and contains some fine character work for both him and Anthony, a character who we see so little of in canon but who is vital and interesting here.
A place to be by

This hurts--raw, brutal, shocking. It's not so much that everybody dies because on some level, it's utterly ridiculous that JKR didn't kill more of them in canon. So, yes, the character death hurts, but what is truly agonizing is Harry's despair, his brokenness. This Neville is so bleakly *good*, so horribly resigned, and so OMG the ending! If you need a happy ending, this is not the story to read.
A Slice of Life by

So, again with the sadness. This story is unexpected and surprising, and I really hesitate to say anything about it for fear of ruining the mystery. Trust me. If you like slippery stories that twist on you, you'll enjoy this read.
A Simple Misunderstanding; by

Neville really, really doesn't want anyone to pee on him. Is that too much to ask? I literally howled with laughter. Which was, frankly, necessary after reading the previous two stories.
