The shape of me and other stuff
Dec. 10th, 2019 09:35 pm1. Finished grading everything for the five classes I'm teaching for my institution and turned in grades. Final due tonight at midnight for system-wide course; grading and turning in grades in the morning, and then I'm done with the semester!
2. I'm not marking it on Goodreads because I'm skimming and cherry picking for my research instead of doing a proper reading, but I'm really enjoying The Frenzy of Renown by Leo Braudy (1986). It's incredibly well written with great authorial voice; I hate academic work which pretends as if the writer is some sort of invisible computer. The best academic writing is one in which the author dares to exist. LOL It's a history of ideas about fame and celebrity going back to ancient Rome, and it's fascinating. At some point, I would like to come back and read it properly.
3. I got a new phone, a Samsung A20, which the internet helpfully informs me is really a phone for a child. LOL I just want to call, text, and get on the internet. I can't see paying hundreds of dollars more for all this functionality I'm not going to use. As it is, my kiddo device clocks in at way more than I wanted to spend on a phone. I'm sad, though, because the Fitbit is not compatible with my new phone because of course it's not. *sigh* Oh, well. At least I had the sense to research it before I bought one. I'm gonna have to track my fitness shit old school. LOL

misbegotten and 020104isme. I love setting them up on my mantle.
5. I'm 600 words into a treat for Yuletide and having a blast. I tookexecutrix's advice and have been daydreaming the fic while I'm exercising, and that's been extremely helpful in terms of writing and plotting. I'm hoping to finish two treats, but at least this one is definitely going to happen and that makes me happy.
