I can't believe it's been this long since I made a rec post. My bookmarks are just piling up. (Also, I think I need to redo the way I tag recs; it's not very useful the way I am currently doing it. *headdesk*)

In other news, I am starting to go through the house and pack, throwing away the junk and setting aside the stuff we'll sell in the garage sale. I went through the bottom drawer of my two-drawer filing cabinent and tossed half a thirty gallon garbage bag full of paper. Among the trash? The mean letters my family wrote me a decade ago when Josh and I started living together--Mom, Dad and MeeMaw's missives that I had filed under Ugly Letters From Family. I threw them away without even reading them again and I'm rather proud of myself for that.

On the Mating Habits of Middle Aged Action Heroes by [livejournal.com profile] kita0610 Die Hard; McClane/Farrell; Adult
I am so pleased that one of my favorite Buffyverse authors is now sticking her toes into Die Hard. Kita is a beautiful writer and this fic hits a lot of the kinks inherent in her Connor/Angel pieces but smooths them out a little, gentles them. This John is a John who struggles with his impulse to parent Matt, a John who is more than a little turned on by Matt's hero worship. This is pure, unadulterated heat.

OK Computer by [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza; SGA; John/Rodney; Adult; long
I know you guys have read this already (along with the rest of the internet!), but bear with my description. This fic mirrors the finale of season four in ways that the author didn't intend--we have a Rodney who is desperate to fix what he feels has gone wrong with the universe (the loss of John) and an interesting adaptation of holographic technology. This fic is at times good silly fun and at others it is heart-breakingly tragic. Excellent read.

Sapphires in his Eyes by [livejournal.com profile] quellefromage; SPN; gen; PG
This is the best kind of crack--the kind that manages to be both canonically plausible and poignant as all hell. By the power of Sapphire Barbie, indeed.

on tagging

LJ will let you rename tags, but will not let you rename to pre-existing tags, so you might want to go to the Tag Management (http://www.livejournal.com/manage/tags.bml) page, delete the new tags you used on this entry, and then use the rename function. Though if your pre-existing fandom tags are used about equally both for recs and non-recs then maybe you're stuck with just re-tagging by hand.

Yup. I'm gonna have to do it all by hand. *sigh* But I did about twenty or so today and honestly if we hadn't had company this evening I'd probably have been done with it all in about an hour.

Also, good to know about the pre-existing tag thing. I had not realized that.

Yeah, it's not something they clearly advertise or anything -- you just sort of figure it out when you rename tags and then realize that it didn't take (in contrast, del.icio.us will let you rename to a pre-existing tag, but sometimes people coming from lj don't realize that and do it all by hand).
