Come on baby, let me know by [livejournal.com profile] scribblinlenore Sam/Dean Adult This story hits one of my major kinks (the boys have to pretend to be romantically involved in order to solve a case) and hits it hard. This is funny--snorting beverages out of your nose funny--but it's also really, really hot and a whole heck of a lot of fun. If you missed this one, give it a read; you won't be disappointed.

Second Glance by [livejournal.com profile] ygrawn Sam/Dean Adult This is told from John's POV and is pretty much, for me, the definitive "John finds out about the Wincest" fic. The voice here is spectacular--not quite stream of consciousness, but very much inside John's mind. What I especially love is that John's emotions about Sam and Dean's relationship are incredibly complicated and because they are so, they feel very real to me.

Of Was and When by [livejournal.com profile] apreludetoanend Gen This is masterful, truly. It weaves together the story of Sam leaving for Stanford and Sam and Dean handling the deal Dean made with the crossroads demon. This piece *hurts*, in the most amazing and bizarrely hopeful kind of way. It's a shortie, but oh dear lord, a goodie.

Always Some Door Open by Anon Gen Dean and Agent Henrickson switch bodies. I love love that the bodyswap trope, which is usually a prelude the "oh my god I *do* want to fuck my brother" epiphany is here the catalyst for an epiphany of another sort. I think Henrickson is very insightfully characterized and I really wish they'd do a version of this on the show.

SGA

I am not a huge fan of the "We're Not Gay, We Just Love Each Other" trope; while I don't despise it exactly, it usually gets on my nerves because I find it an off-putting ploy to paint the ship of the story as OMG so much more special than ordinary people. But, many of these recs fall into that category because I'm still slogging through [livejournal.com profile] cathexys's recs and if I had to venture a guess, I'd say she is a fan of that trope because lots of her recs fall into that category. (Which is perfectly valid and cool by me, cause hey--different strokes) So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think the these are stories that either handle that trope particularly well or that I like very much despite it. :)

Oblivious by [livejournal.com profile] astolat Sheppard/McKay Adult Rodney just assumes that he and John are in a relationship and John can only watch from the sidelines as the train derails in slow motion. This fic is just a boatload of fun. Rodney is so damn sweet here and I love watching John slowly, slowly come around.

Aftershocks by [livejournal.com profile] astolat Sheppard/McKay Adult I think that "The Storm" is one of the finest episodes in the first season (maybe even the whole series; I'll tell y'all when I get done watching LOL) and this fic is set in the aftermath of that episode. It's a lovely, lovely moment where John and Rodney connect and comfort each other.

Touch by [livejournal.com profile] astolat Sheppard/McKay Adult This is a piece about longing and about fear and boys being very, very stupid. LOL Lovely.

Care in the Holding by [livejournal.com profile] laceymcbain Sheppard/McKay Adult This is set throughout season one, and centers around John and Rodney's time in the firing range. The shooting lessons begin practically--as a necessary skill that Rodney must learn to become part of John's team--and end up as so much more. There’s no response. Rodney remembers the eerie silence of the church on the day of his mother’s funeral, the heavy cloying scent of incense, and there isn’t a ritual for death by alien technology like there is for other kinds of death. Except maybe there is, and before he can stop himself by thinking it through he’s moving through the air that doesn’t seem to move with him, and he’s standing right behind Sheppard the way the Major’s stood behind him a dozen times when they’ve been in this room. He reaches out and shadows Sheppard’s grip on the barrel, places a hand on the Major’s left hip, rests his chin against Sheppard’s shoulder and whispers “relax your stance,” as if he’s always been the one giving the lessons and this is just another ordinary day.

There's a Trick With a Knife I'm Learning to Do by [livejournal.com profile] laceymcbain Gen Adult for themes of violence This fic is set after a season two episode that I haven't yet watched, but the context for it is "The Storm." I don't know much about Ronon's character yet; all I really know is that he is very, very pretty and supergloriously hardcore, but the Ronon in this story--if this is what he becomes....wow. This story hurts, like a knife dragging shallowly across your belly; it's a story about guilt and survival and about adapting. It's also a story that testifies how close the Atlantis expedition has come to each other; I think it's a story of family.

I'm writing fic--SGA fic! That's porny and slashy and I need to know things. Little details.

1. How old is everybody? I know Ford is 25 in season one. Do we ever get anyone else's age canonically? If not, what's the general fandom consensus? My notion is that most everybody on Atlantis except for some of the youngish looking Marines is between 35-40 and that a couple few of the scientists might be older than 40.

2. What happens to Bates? In the finale of the first season he's all beat up and I've watched the first disc of the second season and maybe I just wasn't paying attention, but did he die or something? Also, what's his first name and his rank?

3. What is Kavanaugh's (and am I spelling that correctly) first name and what's his area of scientific expertise?

4. What is Peter Grodin's area of scientifc expertise?
