kroki_refur Gen This story is told through stick figure drawings and will make you bust a gut. Kroki really has a gift for the funny.
The Knuckles of Skinnybone Tree by
hansbekhart Sam/Dean Adult I don't really know how to describe this fic in a way that does justice to it. This is not schmoopy Wincest or even Wincest that is comfortable with itself. This is raw, achingly raw and bruised and so very, very full of fear. I must confess that I don't know exactly what is happening in the final moments of this fic; I mean, I understand the action as it's written. But I don't quite know what the author is trying to say. I just know that it hurts to read and that's good enough for me.
Midwinter by
sesperis John/Rodney Adult This fic is set in the future, after our intrepid explorers have lived in Atlantis a long while, long enough that Atlantis is the first place that springs to mind when they hear "home," long enough that Pegasus has infiltrated the way they think and they way they act. We are given glimpses of a beautiful Athosian ritual and allowed to watch the SGA crew as they participate. This fic is very melancholy for me, although I accept that others may find it more hopeful and full of promise than I do. The descriptions are really gorgeous; this is a total sensory experience.
And Be One Traveler by
amireal and
trinityofone David Hewlett/John/Rodney Adult This fic is contained within the comm
fic_of_doom which you must join to read. The basic premise is that David Hewlett finds himself transported to Atlantis. This fic amuses me because I often fantasize scenarios in which I find myself transported into the worlds of the TV shows I love so much. Watching him determine the ways in which the Hollywood version and the "real" version of Atlantis compare is a lot of fun. There's also some wonderfully funny dialogue and dissection of both John and Rodney's characters. There's also a surprising amount of angst here, which y'all know I adore, and an ending that I find very satisfying. However, I don't really like the mechanism they use to get David to Atlantis; I think it's confusing and it just doesn't function well for me as a reason for him to be able to move back and forth between these realities.
I Got Soul, But I'm Not a Soldier by
minervacat John/Rodney Adult (Part two of two, with the first chapter linked at the top) This is John after Rodney has died and it's one of the most gloriously painful things I've read in any fandom. Y'all know me; I love to cry. Really nothing I'd rather be doing on my downtime. And this is that full body, sobbing like the dickens, "THEY CAN NEVER EVER BE APART!!!!!!" wailing kinda fic. It makes me hope that in the final episode of this show the PTB don't let either of our boys buy the farm heroically; if my reaction to this fic is any indication, I don't think my heart could take it.
