And on the Seventh Day, She Memed
Mar. 15th, 2008 07:27 pmI hath made a meme!
Top three songs featuring your name that nobody ever sang. Who's the artist? What's the song about?
To my knowledge, my name is only featured in two actual songs--"Quiche Lorraine" by the B52s (which is a kickass song about a poodle) and "Goodbye, Lorraine" by Frank Black (which is a kickass song about leaving a girl named Lorraine, even though I wish it was by the Pixies instead of Frank all on his lonesome 'cause I totally think Kim Deal could provide some rocking backup)--which I find inexplicable because Lorraine rhymes with EVERYTHING.
So, if I had my druthers, here's the five songs about Lorraine I'd love to listen to.
1. "Long Black River" by Ryan Adams. Over hauntingly gorgeous guitar and harmonica, Ryan laments the love of his life, Lorraine, who ripped out his heart and stomped it to shreds, the memory of whom has left him incapable of ever loving again. This song features the vocal stylings of Heartbreaker rather than the nasally laziness of most of Cold Roses. Sample lyrics: "I drink at night to lose the pain/ of never kissing sweet Lorraine." And then he cries a little over the bridge.
2. "Big Hipped Woman" by Led Zeppelin. This song is 23 minutes long and in the concert footage, Robert Plant is stripped to the waist, sweat running down his chest and pooling at the waistband of his low slung jeans. His hair is in his face and his pelvis is cocked out at the world and his voice sounds like the sex we all wish we were having and will be lucky to have at least once in our lives. Sample lyrics: "Lorraine Lorraine Lorraine Lorraine/ Oooh, Oooooooh, OOOOOHHHHHHHHH, Uh, Lorraine."
3. "The Only Drug" by Chris Cornell and Trent Reznor. In this long anticipated duet by alt-rock's favorite screamers of the 90s, Cornell and Reznor tell the story of a beautiful and troubled drug addict who is too damaged to save. The chorus, a raw and throaty vocal duel, is the highlight of this song. Sample lyrics: "Like an angel, wings broken, in the filth she crawls;/ hollow emptiness of black eyes;/ this beauty I cannot keep."
If I had to make this an even fandom five, I'd choose Tori Amos and Willie Nelson to round out the list.
