i spent twelve long months on the lam
May. 16th, 2010 11:14 pmHello Half-Blood Prince by Acid and
sinick; Gen; Unfinished
This is unfinished and looks likely never to be finished and that's frustrating as hell because it is SO FREAKING AWESOME. I've already decided that A&S are pretty much an unstoppable team of yay, and this fic only proves the theorem. Even if you loath WIPs as much as telemarketers, you should still read this because of the absolutely awesome way it integrates spectacular art with the story. So so so so clever. *jealous noises*
A Toast to Voldemort by magnetic_pole; Augusta Longbottom/Minerva McGonagall; Neville POV; PG
I love this story. I love it fiercely and wholeheartedly and above the telling of it. I love it because it treats two older women as real and complex people with actual feelings and sexual desires. I love it because it doesn't shy away from acknowledging that we make choices and then must live with the consequences, that we must live also with the consequences of the choices that others make. Also, Neville is my HP BFF forever and always.
A Slow Motion Accident by
geoviki; Ron/Draco; Adult
Draco's dead, and he just won't go gently into that good night. Lighthearted and fun, despite what I think is a serious undertone to the fic given the existential issues it deals with.
Archipelago by
wideworldsend; Ron/Draco; Adult
Somebody's trying to kill Draco, or at least a very disturbed and disturbing version of Ron Weasley thinks so. Does Ron have the Sight, or is he off his rocker? Draco can't wait to find out. Well, yes he can because of the whole somebody trying to kill him thing, but you know what I mean.
Sanguine, A Serpent Knotted Sable by Amanuensis; Lucius/Harry; Adult (non-con and BDSM)
This is an exquisite Lucius character study. It's in first person, but the voice rings so true, I wasn't even bothered by the POV. I love how deeply this fic delves into Lucius's psyche, the games he plays, the risks he takes, the fact that no matter what and who he is and has done, his family still matters more than anything else to him. I love the ambiguous ending--this should be required reading for anyone who wants to know how to nail that amorphous ending that makes a reader gasp and rattle her keyboard in frustrated admiration.
A World Not So Black or White by Amanuensis; Lucius/Harry; Harry/Sirius noncon; brief mentions of offscreen incest; Adult
This is not a perfect story. In Lorraine's world, the noncon would have been way more graphic and angsty, why Harry felt he had to run away would have been explained more adequately and not left a huge gaping plothole, and the end would have been a little less Society for Creative Anachronism. But I still enjoyed the hell out of this story. Like a lot. It's a Lucius/Harry love story. *shrugs* IDK. Naturally, it's predicated on rapery and the suchlike. I am so ridiculous.
