The best thing to happen this year

Fiona is the obvious answer, but it goes deeper than that. I think the best thing to happen to me this year is the discovery that I truly enjoy being the parent of a teensy baby in a way that I did not with Emma. I was too sick when I was pregnant and too out of my mind with postpartum depression after Emma. I barely remember most of the first couple years of her life. It's almost like I'm doing this for the first time with Fiona (of course that makes me melancholy for what I could have had when Emma was a baby too, so it's bittersweet).

My dream job

Y'all, I am living it. My mom is a professor of nursing, so I grew up in a college town as the kid of a college professor. I have never wanted to be anything other than an English professor. I love being a teacher. It's so tied up in my identity that I can't imagine doing anything else, *being* anything else. I hope I continue to do this up until I can't physically do it any longer.

One of my favorite childhood books

So many to choose from, but one favorite that comes to mind is The Magic Grandfather by Jay Williams. I loved stories about kids rescuing adults. I loved stories about people discovering hidden talents or secrets about themselves. I loved magic. I loved the word brazier. LOL

My favorite non-fandom websites

npr.org for news

jezebel.com for a mix of news not being covered elsewhere plus silly posts

myobsaidwhat.com for a mix of really hilarious and truly heartbreaking things doctors say to pregnant women; it's a place to go when you want to laugh, for sure, but some of the posts can be quite awful (like when doctors are callous about miscarriages)

Huh. I clearly do not use the internet for much besides fandom. LOL

My favorite recipe

my French onion soup recipe

What I'm looking forward to

Fiona sleeping through the night consistently. Emma finishing the latest Percy Jackson book so we can talk about it. My hair not falling out anymore (bah, this post-partum is way worse than the last one for hair loss).

Where I've traveled

Almost all the fifty states (including Alaska), Mexcio (across the border in Texas and Cozumel), Grand Cayman, Jamaica, Vancouver, Canada at Niagara Falls, France, and Spain.
