Dude! Stargate SGU is totally The Last Starfighter. I can't help but love.
SPN rocked last night. Last week was total Mehsville for me. I actually *cringed* involuntarily multiple times while watching. (To be fair, I also enjoyed certain aspects of the episode, but overall, squarely in the bottom ten.)
Last night? Oh, man. *beams* You learn that lesson, Dean. *squee*
Edited to add that apparently some people interpet Cas's orgy scene as him running a religious scam in order to sleep with women. I'm not so sure.
I'm not necessarily sure that Cas is running a scam, though. Yes, he is using drugs and yes he is having sex, but Buddhism is one of the world's only major religions that isn't centered around a deity. It's centered around self--the Buddha looks within, not above. It makes perfect sense to me that when abandoned by his Father and his fellow angels, Cas would turn to an expression of faith that is contingent on neither. I know he's indulging himself which runs contrary to the principles of nonattachment, but there's really nothing to suggest that he doesn't also find some measure of comfort and faith in the tenets of Buddhism.

Date: 2009-10-03 03:03 pm (UTC)The whole was it Zach mindfucking Dean, or as it real thing is left so wide open.
If Zach can travel through time why not get future willing Dean to be Micheal's angel condom?
Why would Sam finally give in? what broke him?
What happened to Bobby, and Jo, and others?
Does that Chuck (the prophet guy) still get visions?
Would Dean ever go so far as to toss his friends to the wolves as a diversion?
How did Cas go from the man we love to the man who will love anything with a hole?
so many questions! I love it!

SGU
Date: 2009-10-05 12:17 pm (UTC)And the bit at the start where they were all flying out of the gate was creepy (broken bones creep me out) and it reminded me of really, really old school Stargate (the original movie and the SG-1 pilot, back when the trip through the wormhole wasn't perfectly smooth sailing). Also, I appreciate that they brought back the Lucian Alliance, however briefly *iz a canon wh0re and a dork* I can work with that, because it lets me think about Earth-based fic where they've been staying out of the fight for the last couple of years (focusing on the Wraith threat, rebuilding their forces after the Ori war) and giving the Lucian Alliance more-or-less a free pass but now realize how dangerous that was, and now Carter has to take her spaceship out into the galaxy and kick some space-pirate ass.
tl;dr - the jury is still out, and I don't want to pay to access it (which is almost unheard of for me), and there are some Issues that bother me. But IDK, I may watch more. Maybe.

Date: 2009-10-05 12:31 pm (UTC)Oh, gosh yes. By no means do I think this show is perfect. I think that ultimately it will suffer from the same issues and complications that the other Gateverse shows do.
But like you, I do really liked the mention of the Lucian Alliance (although I was hoping it was going to be that unnamed Big Bad we see in the Multiverse ep of SGA). I absolutely adored the shoutout to Last Starfighter and I really enjoyed the characters. I did not like Rush in the sense that I would not like to have dinner with him but he is very deliciously skeevy. I think he'll be a great addition to the show. One of the things that made SGA less interesting than it could have been is that once Bates and Kavanagh hit the road, there were no more sources of internal dissent and conflict. I think Rush has his own agenda; I think he's an obsessed lying liar face, and I think ultimately, that's going to make good TV.
I also really appreciated that the Senator was the one to sacrifice himself. It's unexpected because he seems like a blustery asshole to start with; in retrospect, a lot of that probably stems from being afraid, both for himself and for his child. I thought that scene was really well played with all the actors.
I'd be surprised if I ever feel as strongly about this show as I do SGA, but stranger things have happened. :)
