1. Do you write/plan to write original fiction? Why or why not?
Yes! I currently have a story out right now that I hope will be accepted. *crosses fingers* I will not forget you little people when Kelly Link chooses my story to begin The Year's Best Science Fiction and Fantasy anthology. LOL
2. Are you near-sighted or far-sighted?
So very very very nearsighted. Very.
3. Do you have a pet or pets? TELL ME MORE.
We have two cats. Tweek is black, 11 years old, and was a foundling. She had had her tail eaten off by something and so now all she has is a little stump that she wags like a dog. She's Josh's girl all the way. Electra is a tortoise shell, 10 years old, very skittish, and possibly the dumbest animal I've ever encountered. So sweet, but dumb as shit. Her face is half black and half orange just like that episode of TOS. She's so neurotic; she was on Prozac for awhile until she and Tweek broke into the stash, ate all her meds, and slept for three days straight. She expresses a distinct preference for women; her favorite pastime is to rub her face on some unsuspecting woman's chest. Oh, Electra, your party fouls are numerous. She also used to just lick the carpet in our old apartment for no reason we could discern. This has led to some ingenious nicknames, let me tell ya.
4. What was the last book you read and really, really liked?
Patrick Rothfuss Name of the Wind. So freaking good. It's the first of a trilogy and I'm really excited for the next installments. It's fantasy--magic and the whole nine yards--but somehow reads as fresh to me even after a lifetime of immersing myself in that genre.
5. Name a smell or other sensory perception that comes wrapped up with memories for you.
Oh gosh. It's music. Always. The other day I heard Eve 6 on the radio and for just one second, I was squished in Lisa's car with Crystal and Sian and Jennifer and we were drinking Route 44 cherry limeades with the windows rolled down on Hardy Street. I get so damn nostalgic. I think it's my default setting, especially in the fall.
Who wants me to ask them something?

Date: 2009-11-15 11:37 pm (UTC)2. Do you wear jewelry? If so, describe your favorite piece to me. If not, what do you wear for adornment?
3. What's your favorite scent? Why?
4. Best meal you've ever had?
5. Describe your personality in six words.

1. What's your favorite Greek myth? Why?
2. If you could visit any time period, which would it be? Why?
3. Do you believe in soulmates? Why or why not?
4. If you planted an ornamental garden, what plants and flowers would you include?
5. Are you a good money manager or, like me, do you have to struggle to keep your finances in order?

Date: 2009-11-15 11:58 pm (UTC)2. Hmm. Well, I'd love to visit the library of Alexandria with a digital camera/video recorder, because it hurts my soul that we lost so much.
3. No. I dislike the idea that how my relationship turns out is pre-determined, and that life is all roses if only you find *just* the right person. I've worked hard to get where I am :D
4. I love things that smell nice, like daphnes and roses. And there'd have to be a lot of rockpools, because hubby loves those.
5. I'm weird. When I have a lot of money, I don't feel like spending it; when things are tighter, shopping makes me feel better. But generally, we try to stick to a budget.

Date: 2009-11-19 06:57 pm (UTC)The story goes all the way back to Hesiod (Greek poet, c. 720BC), but the Romans picked it up too: the most complete version is in Ovid's Metamorphoses (3.324-342).

Okay, questions:
1. Name two characters from other sources you'd like to see dropped into Discworld and why.
2. Tell me a joke.
3. According to your totally arbitrary system for determining your favorite Trek pairings, which pairings work best for Lorraine? (Pike/Lorraine, naturally. I mean, dude, it's already a verb!)
4. Do you have any squicks in reading or writing? What are they?
5. What are your narrative kinks?
Answering here because I am too lazy to post and also I am running out of questions to ask others
Date: 2009-11-20 02:22 am (UTC)2. I know a joke! A man walks into a bar and asks the bartender to make him an alligator sandwich. The bartender says, "An alligator sandwich, huh?" The man says, "Yeah, and be quick about it!"
...
You did start me on that Discworld theme, it's hardly my fault.
3. Kirk/Lorraine actually works better than Pike/Lorraine according to my totally arbitrary system's strict laws. Um.
4. Uhhh. Extreme humiliation, I guess; overpowering awkwardness. And so forth. People walking in ever so hilariously on their children's sex scenes when they'd intended to finally have that serious talk they'd been putting off forever and ever.
5. ...I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT MEANS enlighten me and I will answerrrrr
Re: Answering here because I am too lazy to post and also I am running out of questions to ask other
Date: 2009-11-20 02:30 am (UTC)It is Discworld that first united us, my dear. Far be it from me to regret its intrusion into any conversation.
:)
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, Kirk/Lorraine. Totally doable.
Your squicks are interesting. I actually have a huge fondness for awkward sex scenes in fic. Particularly when there's tons of affection between the characters.
Narrative kinks means storytelling tropes that really freaking do it for you (not necessarily in a sexual way but that you find satisfying to read). so for example, my bulletproof narrative kinks are amnesia fic (I love love love seeing what remains and what doesn't translate when people don't know who they are or who the people around them are), ANGST!, canon compliance, outsider POV, peripheral characters, APOCALYSPE!!!!!
Re: Answering here because I am too lazy to post and also I am running out of questions to ask other
Date: 2009-11-20 02:40 am (UTC)See, I don't mind awkward sex scenes if they're not so awkward they're utterly miserable for everyone involved. Abject humiliation is probably the best term.
AHA. Okay, um, narrative kinks: hurt/comfort and/or capture/rescue (WOW THAT WAS A LOT OF SLASHES), peripheral characters also, hahaha, and, hm, I need to think about this some. Does 'hilarious space shenanigans' count as a storytelling trope? :'D
Re: Answering here because I am too lazy to post and also I am running out of questions to ask other
Date: 2009-11-20 03:00 am (UTC)Our first interaction that I can clearly remember is commenting on a Sam Vimes fic you wrote. But maybe I found that through Trek? IDK! Anyways, it is a match made in Heaven. LOL
Hilarious space shenanigans is probably the most important storytelling trope that exists. Besides Chekov gets it on.

fantastic!

Date: 2009-11-20 06:26 pm (UTC)That story is so good. I don't know how you feel about kid fic, but this is some of the best I've read in that genre.
