thoughts after watching "Over the Rainbow"

I've always thought that the PTB send Cordelia visions with a purpose--to protect the Champion(s), to avert apocalypses, to protect key people that are instrumental to the to the PTB's agenda (even if it's in some subtle, obscure way), or as a learning experience for the AI team so that they are better equipped to do A, B, and C. I'm not sure that I believe the visions have ever been about saving just some random person in trouble. I think the missions that Cordy's visions send the team on are important to the safety of the world (or more accurately, the PTB's agenda, which I'm not convinced is "good" in the traditional sense of the word) on a large scale and not an individual one. So this leads me to the question: Why do the PTB have them bring Fred back?

They give Cordy visions of Fred, and I think are responsible for Cordelia being sucked into the portal to Pylea, forcing AI to rescue Fred as well. I've got a theory (and it's not bunnies). Is Illyria essential to that final battle with the Senior Partners? Is the only reason the PTB want Fred back in our dimension so that she can become Illyria and kick some demon ass with what's left of the AI team?

Don't forget the tension she caused between Wes and Gunn. This was one of the contributing factors in Wesley's isolation from the group and left him unable to confide in anyone about the false prophesy. Resulting in him taking Conor and then Holtz took Conor to that hell dimension. Conor came back grown up and had a baby with Cordy(yuk yuk yuk!) Cordy's vision of Fred could have come from Jasmine as part of her plan to return to this dimension.

Did that make any sense at all?

That makes plenty of sense and is certainly a plausible alternate explanation. It really depends on how far back you want to say Cordelia is influenced to become the vessel for Jasmine. Is it just from, say "Birthday," or her whole life, or since she moved to L. A., or what? I just read a great convo about Cordelia's role in bringing Jasmine into the world HERE if you're interested.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Skip say that Cordy receiving the visions was part of the plan.

In fact he says this in "Inside Out"

"You really think it stops with her, amigo? You have any concept of how many lines have to intersect in order for a thing like this to play out? How many events have to be nudged in just the right direction? Leaving Pylea (Lorne). Your sister (Gunn). Opening the wrong book (Fred). Sleeping with the enemy(Wes). Gosh, I love a story with scope."

If Skip is to be believed and I don't doubt it, he really doesn't want to get stuck in a Sphere of the Infinite Agony. It sounds like Jasmine has been influencing the AI gang the whole time. Jasmine's been around for thousands of years, I can see her having the patience for this.

So I guess the question is really, is Fred coming back from Pylea part of Jasmine's plan or the PTB's? We may never know. *cue Twilight Zone music* LOL

Could also be that Jasmine hi-jacked Cordy's visions to send her to Pylea. That Cordy receiving the visions wasn't planned at all but Jasmine just seized on the opportunity it gave her or if her agents were behind The Scourge coming to L.A. She could be responsible for Doyle death and giving the visions to Cordy.

As for Illyria that could be the PTBs making the best of a bad situation. Guess we'll never know exciting isn't it? I think I've thought far too hard about this.

I don't know if I *like* it. *g* It certainly sucks if the higher powers just use people like pawns, but I think Ats indicates that they do.

Who knows what the writers had in mind, half the time? I can't decide how far in advance they had story arcs planned or if they were writing from week to week a lot of the time.

In my little alternate reality: Yes. Ilyria's coming was portended, and Fred needed to be around to have that happen so W&H would be soundly smacked and the CotBT woudl be obliterated. That's my story and I'm stickin to it!
