1. Thanks for your well wishes, everyone. The procedure went fine, even if I still feel like I'm recovering from strep throat. LOL In a completely shocking turn of events, the doc saw no sign of celiac during the visual examination of my stomach; he's sending the biopsies off for further examination, but usually celiac damage is visible to the eye. So, I might not have celiac after all.
2. I am living in Bizarro State. After Governor Deal vetoed Georgia's version of the Religious Liberties Bill, we were all certain that he would sign the Campus Carry Bill into law. This would have been the most permissive campus carry law in the country. Somewhere between 6-8 other states have campus carry laws in place but they are very restrictive (you can't have them in the dorms or professor's offices or at sporting events or in daycares and a handful of other places). The Georgia law would have allowed concealed weapons on every part of all the USG campuses except dorms (which we all know is bullshit; on a residential campus, the students would have to bring the guns into the dorm; if they left them in their cars, cars would be broken into every five minutes and guns stolen). The only ray of light was that you have to be 21 to carry a concealed weapon, meaning that the majority of our students would not have been old enough to obtain a permit. Well, lo and behold, Governor Deal vetoed this bill, too, and wrote a lengthy and wonderful explanation of his decision that includes quotations from the Founding Fathers about why guns don't belong at schools. I am delightedly shocked. Naturally, as soon as he vetoed the bill, someone introduced another bill to permit tasers to be carried on campus. *headdesk*
3. I am really enjoying Gotham this season. I love that Gordon is essentially Bat Man in this iteration. He's the vigilante. He's the one trying to do right in a system that constrains him and mostly forces him to operate outside of it. And I love seeing the influence of Gordon and the other villains on Bruce's nascent Bat Man persona. A couple of episodes ago, Baby Bruce is closely watching Azrael swirl about in the shadows in a cape and mask, and you can just see the little gears turning in his head. Also, the preview shows Fish Moony coming back. Yay!!!!!!!!!!
4. Wow am I bored with Castle. I think I'll actually truly watch next week's episode with my whole attention rather than reading fanfic and occasionally glancing up as I've been doing this semester since it will be Beckett's last, but on the whole, I am not interested in this show anymore.
5. I am right, I am right, we all were right, yay internet! I mean, I can't see how it could have gone any other way, but Jon is a Targaryean. Whew. I adore how Gilly has flourished, how freedom and education have given her strength and joy. That is lovely to see. And Arya's got her eyes back! Whooooo! I kinda don't understand how everything's going to play out, pace-wise. So clearly, a big showdown is headed for Castle Black. Sansa's on her way, and so is Bolton. Jon's awake and will be taking part in that (I think Sansa's going to show up before he can leave). But how is Dany going to get back to Westeros? We're going to need to see movement on that pretty quickly or else it will seem very rushed. How is Sam going to take part? It's not like he can become a Maester in five minutes and be on his way back to Castle Black. I'm guessing that Sam will discover something important pretty quickly and go back, leaving Gilly with his family.
6. I was genuinely shocked that the zoologist is Dracula. Good job, TV show! It occurs to me that Ethan's dad can't be a werewolf. All this time, I've been watching under the assumption that he comes from a werewolf clan, but if that's so, his dad wouldn't send people who aren't werewolves to retrieve him, and if he did, he wouldn't send them without some way to contain Ethan at the full moon. So I wonder if his dad even knows that he's a werewolf.

Date: 2016-05-11 01:38 pm (UTC)I would include Barbara in there, but I find that they've done a little too much character assassination of her. I wish they'd just. I don't know. Be more consistent with her?
But Fish! No matter how ridiculous and illogical her plots got, Jada Pinkett Smith sold her acting every time. I thought we'd never see her again!

Date: 2016-05-12 01:43 pm (UTC)I also have liked Barbara from the beginning, but I also am a bit disappointed with how they're portraying her this season. I loved the episode where she got out of Arkham and essentially played Spike to Gordon's Buffy, doing the right thing the wrong way and for the wrong reason, skirting the edge of madness while still helping him. If the show had continued with her in that vein for multiple episodes, heck, even seasons, I would have been down with it. I didn't like that she gave up after one attempt to befriend/win Gordon over.
Fish is hands down my fave character. Really looking forward to seeing her again.

Date: 2016-05-12 01:51 pm (UTC)So, two episodes ago, Bran is watching his dad, uncle, and aunt as kids, and the focus is on Lyanna. So that episode lets us know that Bran can view events in the past and gets us thinking about Lyanna.
Last episode, his dad + Howland Reed (Jojen and Meera's dad) and Co. come to a tower where Lyanna is clearly being kept by Rhaegar Targaryen. Rhaegar is already dead, but his men still keep her captive which seems a weird thing to do if he's dead. If he's dead, why not just let her go? Unless she's pregnant with Rhaegar's child, aka Jon Snow. The hollering at the end, I interrupt as her going into labor.
In the book and show, how Lyanna died or where is never fully revealed although clearly Rhaegar hurt her/terrorized her/raped her based on the language they use to talk about the captivity.
So, basically, the episode didn't quite reveal Jon's parentage (they're stringing this out the way they did Jon being resurrected), but I don't see anywhere else they could be going with these flashbacks or another reason why this information would be important for Bran to know (Jon is a Targaryen and can ride the dragon).
