1. Emma and I watched the premiere of Dirk Gently which we both enjoyed. I haven't read the book(s?) on which the series is based, so I don't know how it measures up in that regard, but it was a perfectly enjoyable hour of television. Elijah Wood plays a character named Todd who begins the show by having a righteously bad day. His landlord seems like a violent lunatic; he loses his job through no fault of his own; and weird stuff starts to just happen around him. We slowly learn that his landlord had a good reason to be angry; Todd has stolen his rent money back from him to help support a sister who has a debilitating disease that features hallucinations. Todd has supposedly recovered from this disease, but I think we are going to learn as the series progresses that Todd is faking his recovery and has merely learned how to cover up when he is having hallucinations. I think Todd will struggle with determining whether what he's experiencing is real or a result of his disease; viewers know that something truly hinky is happening because we are taken outside of Todd's POV. The show has good humor, good dialogue, and a great cast. I'll be looking forward to seeing how it progresses.
2. OMG, SPN, this is why I can't truly quit you. Emma and I just watched "Bad Boys," and it was such a perfect episode. I loved seeing Dean find his place on Sonny's farm. He had a girlfriend, was learning an honest trade, and was a successful athlete. It broke my heart when John showed up to force him to leave. Emma and I were both crying at that point, but the waterworks really started when Dean looked out the window to see Sam in the car. He leaves for Sam--because he loves him and has truly missed him and wants to look out for him. *heart in throat* It didn't help that we were already weepy because the ghost was a mom who was trying to save her kid.
3. Gotham was brilliant. I absolutely cannot believe they made Penguin's clear infatuation with Nygma canon! I am so ecstatic. His little speeches about being in love with Nygma were utterly adorable. Everyone in my house spent this whole episode squealing. The actor who plays Jervis is amazing; that moment at the dinner table where Jim almost breaks him is glorious. I have a suspicion that Jim tells Jervis to shoot Lee because he anticipates the fake out. I am extremely wary of Kristin's doppelganger. No way a Kristin clone shows up spouting riddles who is up to some good.
4. Lucifer was also fantastic. The humor in this episode was great, from Lucifer trying to take a selfie with the dead guy to Lucifer's willingness to sleep with Ella to Lucifer and Dan bonding--lots of laughs. I enjoyed seeing Charisma Carpenter and the Chairman from Iron Chef. We also got some interesting information about Lucifer's background: Amenadiel is the first born, Uriel is afraid of him, and all the kids looked up to him like he was an action star, even Lucifer. Uriel was the small, middle son; they spent a lot of time being ugly to him for trying to join their reindeer games. Amenadiel is the fury and righteousness of the Father. I have to admit I was disappointed with the reveal of Amenadiel's affliction. I really wanted to see Lucifer become protective and worried about him. Uriel thinks that Mom is looking for forgiveness so she can get close enough to Dad to kill him, but that look on her face when she realizes that Lucifer has killed Uriel is so destroyed that I don't think that whatever she's got planned is entirely evil. Lucifer is going to have a very hard time dealing with killing Uriel. Looking forward to the aftermath
