Harry Potter books reread

I finished the second Harry Potter book today. I like Chamber of Secrets much more on this reread than I did before. I think it's the weakest movie, and I think that was coloring my memory of the book (although I liked the movie much more the last time I watched it as well, so I guess I'm just finding more to appreciate now).

I always wish we got some of the narration from Ginny's perspective because it's so scary and horrible. The books just drop the fact that she was possessed and forced to do really terrible things by Voldemort, and I think she would be traumatized for a very long time by that experience. I've read some good fanfic that deals with that, but it's not really addressed in the books at all (unless I've forgotten something).

I adore the Weasley twins walking down the halls proclaiming Harry is the Heir of Slytherin, make way, make way.

Malfoy is so much pettier and less clever than I remember him.

I love how Hermione goes whole hog into the rules breaking when something as horrific as the expulsion of Muggle-born from Hogwarts (and the wizarding world as a whole) is at stake.

I also had forgotten Malfoy's motive for giving the diary to Ginny (to have the daughter of Arthur Weasley, a pureblood on the side of light, responsible for killing Muggleborns). I also had forgotten that he didn't know the diary was a Horcrux and was just acting on his own without direction as far as giving it to her.

Very interested to see how I perceive Lupin when I start the third one.

I'm curious if on a third read you'll think they totally dropped Ginny's trauma. Harry's perspective was so limited, but Tumblr tried to convince me that there were hints of her trauma that he just didn't notice.

If so, they aren't in the third book. She only is mentioned two or three times; in the first mention she blushes and the narration says it's probably because she's embarrassed that Harry saved her life. The second is, I think, her being upset about Scabbers being "eaten," and I don't think she's mentioned again.

She doesn't really start playing much of a role until the fifth book, I don't think, so maybe there's some mentions there. I'll keep an eye out.

Tumblr always brought up her response to finding out that Harry was possessed by voltemort, which was to call him out for thinking he was the only one.

When I started to read the books it was when the last book came out. I was not into Harry Potter until then. I went out and bought the whole set of the books in a chest and finished them in a week. I couldn't put them down once I started reading.

I had the same experience. I just couldn't stopped once I started. In fact, that's what I'm pretty much doing now. LOL

I really liked those books (I think I read them up to the last one in the series about Jace and Clary).

Not knowing better I started with the Mortal Instruments and read all in that series of I think 7 stories. I started reading The Infernal Devices Series (which I should have read first since it referenced characters from those books) and now The Dark Artifices Series. I love the Shadowhunters realm very much.

That's what I started with, too.

Eventually in my reread my own shelves project I will get to those and then actually finish the series.

I hope she writes more. I also ordered the Ghost's of the Shadow Market ebooks. I think I would have liked real books but I don't think they have them in print yet.

In retrospect, I wish the books hadn't been only from Harry's perspective. I think it was an interesting choice, but I think in some ways it was so, so limiting.

I completely agree with you. It has its pros and cons; as time goes on, more cons to me. I so want to know what so many other characters are thinking/doing.
