I got a $100 Amazon gift certificate for my birthday, and I don't know what to spend it on. There's books (there's ALWAYS books), but I have such a backlog of new, unread books that I kinda don't want to add any to the collection at the moment.

Any suggestions for me?

If not, what would you personally spend it on?

Maybe I'll get inspired. :)

Records. :)

[Not helpful, I'm sure.]

Or maybe a special book, like a photography book.

This. Totally. I don't think you can find it on Netflix but this is a series of fairy tales that Jim Henson's company did back in the day. Stories like Tattercoats and other lesser-known stories. It was really good, good enough that I still remember that I want to watch them again some day.

You're welcome. :) There's more information on the series on Wikipedia. I looked it up last night because I couldn't remember the title of the stories and it was driving me crazy.

I'm a gadget/tech kind of person but you might go with adding it towards a year of Amazon Prime and with that you can read all the books as well as watch movies, stream music get 2 day shipping all free for a year, That also entitles you to getting a percentage off food at Whole Foods if you have one by you as well?

I'd buy art supplies. Stuff I have wishlisted includes Copic markers, a cutting mat, and a papercutter. I might think about frames and matting supplies, too.

I do a fair amount of SCA stuff involving printing, calligraphy, and illumination. Here's a project I did based on a fifteenth-century fencing manual, for example, and here's my SCA business card, which I typeset by hand.

Copic markers are a really fun sensory experience and not at all medieval, which means I can just play. Here is a marker drawing of my rpg character hanging out with an alien; here's a pair of Doc Martens that I painted myself.

I like buying cute kitchen things - a pretty pitcher or some dessert plates or ice cream bowls or a fancy bundt pan. New sheets are also nice.

I use Amazon for everything, so any time I get a giftcard, I just add the balance to my account and use it for whatever purchases come along. /boring

I would probably spend it on planner stuff, because I've just started getting really into that. I used a gift card to get a proper filofax, plus they do the refills and the interesting add-ons.

It's so easy to fall down a rabbit hole there. I just got one of the cheaper planners because I'm more interested in what goes inside, so the cover is basic black. But it's an excuse to put anything and everything inside.

I bought a cute small (maybe 5" x 5"?) Franklin Covey undated planner at a yard sale for $1. It has a red leather cover. So far I just use it as a desk calendar because I have a small handbag and I don't need to see all my appointments when I'm outside the house, but if I switch to a bigger handbag it'll be tempting to have the task sheets and shopping list in the same place was my calendar.

I started out with a Personal size (so the paper is about 3.7 x 6.7 inches) but found it wasn't big enough for what I wanted, which was mostly sitting down to plan out my week. So I went up to the A5 - which also makes printing new inserts/adding my own bits much easier because that's just exactly half a sheet of UK printer paper, rather than me printing 2 per page but having to cut all the edges off very carefully.

I also use an undated seven-day whiteboard, which I confess I look at more often than the planner. It would make more sense to use the whiteboard at home and the planner outside but I *just* bought the too-small bag (it's a Coach! It was $5!).

You can't say no to that bag!

Though for a minute, I did misread that as you taking the whiteboard out of the house with you. I've got one myself and now I'm picturing strolling down the road with the entire whiteboard just tucked under my arm...

Hey! The dollar store has whiteboards that are about the size of a sheet of paper, so theoretically I *could* be carrying one around with me...

Today I went to a very disappointing book swap event (...but, giving away two big bags of books...priceless!) and took home only three books I'm not that stoked about, and went to a magically charming antique shop where...I didn't buy anything, and a posh thrift shop where I bought...one book. Only the highlights get reported!
