We have watched the first three episodes of season 4 of Stranger Things; no spoilers beyond that, please!

I'm very bored with everything that's happening in California that doesn't have to do with Joyce and Murray (more of the two of them, show; get on it!). I feel terrible for El that she's being bullied and that she feels like she doesn't belong anywhere, terrible for Will that he's in love with his straight best friend, and terrible for deeply boring Mike that he's basically just being a normal kiddo and not doing anything wrong because he has no idea about either of those things. But I am ready for all of them to be in the same place and fighting monsters together. LOL

I find Jonathon's storyline more interesting because he and Nancy have essentially done the whole try to stay together while going to different colleges thing a year early. And it's really hard to make long distance relationships work, especially in the pre-internet, pre-cellular nationwide free long distance calling era. But I am still bored with it.

However, the acting is superb--stoned Jonathon is a thing of beauty as is tragic Will and emotionally devastated El.

I don't remember the first three seasons well enough: Is El killing everybody new information, or did we already know that? If we did already know it, what did we know?

I'm very glad that episode three ends with Paul Reiser's flunkies going to tell Will et al what's going on so they're not just in the dark about what's happened to El.

Can't wait for Hopper's daring rescue. I know that some of y'all didn't like his characterization in season 3, but it didn't bother me. First, I also found Mike/El's teenage love moderately grating LOL, and I can 100% see how it would get on Hopper's nerves. Remember, he's been handed a grown up daughter, not raised her from the beginning where he'd have been able to gradually get used to parenting and all the steps and stages. He's boom--doing it in the middle. And they were pretty obnoxious. Normally and wonderfully so. Good for them! But obnoxious. LOL And the whole Moonlighting/Cheers adversarial bantering thing they were going for with Hop and Joyce did not aggravate me either. So very ready for him to be back on the scene and reunited with El.

Totally digging almost everything in Hawkins. I actually really like the way the group has fractured. It makes me sad but feels very realistic to me. I love that when push comes to shove, of course Lucas is ride or die for his real friends. That shot of Lucas jumping off the porch and running when Paul Reiser says that El has had real friends fighting the fight by her side is *chef's kiss*. Love Steve and Robin's enduring friendship (and that moment when you realize he has kept the secret of her sexuality even from Dustin and the other core group). Love Steve and Dustin in the car with the teeth threat and fist bump. Boobies! Lady Applejack rolls a twenty! Hell, yes!

Eddie is a delight. Introducing new characters is always a risk, but he's a great one. The actor is fantastic, and the character slots very nicely into the existing group.

I'm trying to figure out what's going on with the monster. It's targeting people with past trauma, but I think it's targeting people who feel guilty about something, who feel like they've done something wrong. Fred feels like he either killed a friend in a car accident or let him die after (the specifics aren't quite clear to me). Max probably feels like she should have saved Billy. I can't figure out Chrissy's deal. I hope they explain. I can't figure out whether she was pregnant or had an eating disorder or what the hell was the crack that let the monster in.

I also think the Creely thing is a red herring. I don't think the Upside Down was open then. I think the monster is Matthew Modine. But IDK

I would also like to register a complaint about Robin's hair and Nancy's wardrobe.
