lunabee34: (Ouida by ponders_life)

[livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl tagged me for the interests/icons meme so

here's my answers

Aphex Twin: My husband Josh introduced me to this band (which I loosely call a band as it consists of Richard D. James and his computer). It's electronic music and it ROCKS LIEK WHOA! My favorite album is The Richard D. James Album and my favorite video is either "Come to Daddy" or "Windowlicker." Richard D. is obsessed with himself, a hobby I can relate to sympathize with, so I enjoy the narcissism in his videos (he likes to paste his head on top of girls' bodies). The music is innovative and has a melody, unlike some electronica which sounds like whales are randomly mating while somebody bangs some pots together. Anybody wants a copy, email me and I'll mail you one.

Forhyde: I love That 70s Show and when I realized there's really no fic for it, I almost had a heart attack. On ff.net there's a shit ton of emo Jackie/Hyde in which Jackie is anorexic or tempted to become a call girl or talks in text!speak that makes me wanna kill myslf. But there's almost nothing I wanna read. The exception is
[livejournal.com profile] shadowscast's Chronicles of the Rebel Alliance, which is all the angsty Eric/Hyde I could dream of. Seriously. One story. Freaking goldmine, people. *sigh*

Queer Theory: I am far from an expert on queer theory. Really, really far. Pretty much as far from straight as I read Faith. But I wrote my MA thesis on Ouida, a Victorian novelist who privileged male homoerotic friendships above any other relationships. Her most well known works are A Dog of Flanders and Under Two Flags, although if you buy the latest edition of Moths I get a shoutout in the acknowledgements.

Awwww, Foucault. You drive me mad. You are long winded and very descripty. You write incessantly about sex for which I love you. You are often difficult to parse, but I never tire of saying Panopticon. Ever.

I really like Aphex Twin, although mostly I remember the music from when I was a teenager. I don't even know if I had CDs - I think I borrowed them and made tapes (I had no money!). And now? I don't even have a tape player. My Aphex Twin story is a story of the rapid change in technology! In conclusion - I need to buy some AT CDs.

Foucault *shakes fist* Some cool ideas, but why's he gotta write the way he does (did)? Then again, I suppose the French-to-English translation doesn't help. Also - panopticon is a sweet word.

I'm shocked - shocked, I tell you! - about the lack of Hyde/Eric. I would have thought there'd be tons of that pairing.

Dude, I know! But there is nothing! Nothing I say. I read ff.net for like two weeks. Two weeks of my life I can never reclaim and there is nothing.

*weeps*

Ooops! In my head, I'd replied to this. Clearly, my head needs a shake!

Thank you for the offer of CDs! But now that I actually have money, I think it would be nice to buy the CDs! I'd just kind of forgotten about the band until you mentioned it. Therefore: YOU WIN! :D

I read ff.net for like two weeks. Two weeks of my life I can never reclaim and there is nothing.

NO! NOT FF.NET. That place will suck out your soul.

Also: You've probably seen this all, but I did a little search and found these Eric/Hyde fics (didn't read them, though, so I have no idea about quality):

I hope you find something that makes you jump for joy!

If only I had paid more attention when I watched That 70s Show - I would write something for you if I had a better sense of the voices.

Yeah. I've thought about writing it myself, but that would require research and a re-watching of episodes that I don't own and yeah. Work. LOL

You're so sweet to think that, though.

I think that Eric/Hyde could be a lot of fun to write. But yeah, so much time to rewatch!

Osama Bingladen, clearly, is in charge of giving martyrs their allotment of postmortem virgins.

Either that, or he's Darcy's best friend.

Yes. Clearly. He spurts in and challenges Darcy to a game of ecarte.

Depending on what they're playing for, he doesn't get to spurt until he wins the game. (Ecarte, BTW, is French for "perverse")

ETA: Osama Blingladen: terrorist jeweler. Blood Diamonds a specialty.

Also, I don't have an inkjet printer, so I'm not volunteering, but you need t-shirt transfers, one with 80% of your Pony Express icon, so it says "WINCHEST". And one from Drive with the Salazar Bros: "HOMEYEROTICISM"

Your icon! *squeeee*

I'm afraid they're going to pull some really lame Fight Club kind of thing at the end. That or a really lame Ten Little Indians thing.

Also, I'm not reassured when Katherine turns up to chat because, well, that tends to be associated with Jennifer Love Hewitt. And you'd think he'd say something along the lines of, darlin', I'm havin' fun here, but tell me where you are and I can skip the "I need you, I don't need you, I need you, I don't need you, and all of that drivin' around."

I'll spare you that rant.

Around this corner of LJ, it would illustrate the concept of "preaching to the choir."

I love your animated icon. The crazy shit my students come up with simultaneously makes me laugh and skid further towards a cynical and misanthropic view of the future. Because bless their hearts, they smoke the really bad crack sometimes.

Though, you know, 'I could have went psycho on him/her, but I just moved away' actually sums up at my breakups with at least two of my exes, so maybe some of those crazy kids are actually on to something.

To conclude, Panopticon! Just because it is fun to say.

They really are on something half the time. I think my kids' awareness of reality is quite flawed. Also their fashion sense, but I digress.

'I could have went psycho on him/her, but I just moved away'

LOL

That's definitely my favorite of those quotes. And it is kinda accurate for Heathcliff and Catherine too.
