The Truth About Santa Claus
Frasier; Niles/Frasier; PG
This one was written for me!!! Yay! I knew if I whined about it enough, the Frasier fic would materialize. :) The dialogue here is truly spectacular. I can hear these lines in the character's mouths. This is funny and sweet, and although Yuletide fics certainly don't have to be about the holidays, I really really really dig on holiday fic. This is no exception.

Treasures
Aladdin; Gen
This story is broken up into two parts. The frame story is funny and zinny and appropriately fourth-wall breaky, and the internal tale is very sweet and introspective.

faded from the winter
Anastasia; Gen
OMG, so freaking good. So freaking good. This is a look at Anastasia's early life and the aching and gorgeous thread of winter runs through the whole thing like breath whitened in the chill air.

Bittersweet
Beauty and the Beast; Beauty/Beast
In this story, Beast remains a beast. He does not transform as they all expected, and Wow. Just wow. I particularly like the look at the enchantress who here is revealed to be cruel and capricious rather than genuinely interested in generating change.

An Unexpected Match
Belgariad/Mallorean; Eddings; canon pairings + Beldaran/Eriond
The dialogue here is so fun and spot on. I very much enjoy this coda to the series.

On the Road
Bound; Violet/Corky; Adult
This is what happens after. Good sexy times in a diner and a genuinely compelling OC.

And Climb on Every Rung
Bridge to Teribithia; Gen
Holy Moly this is some good shit, my people. This is my top pick for this set of recs and maybe for the whole fest. I think I'll be hard pressed to find anything more finely written in the archive this year. This hurts to read in that wonderful and hopeful and heart in throat way that I love more than anything else in the whole world. I literally sat at my computer and bawled like a baby for the duration of this one. If you read nothing else this Yuletide, read this one.

This is not the End
Child's Play; Gen
Wow. Okay, I know. It's Child's Play. It's a ridiculous movie. Like, really ridiculous. But this is Child's Play with all the camp and the silly stripped away. This is stark and raw and way more terrifying than the movie ever hoped to be. The narrative structure here is particularly interesting.
