Since all I really seem to be doing with this journal lately is making rec posts, I've been wondering how you guys feel about them and if there's anything I can do to make them more useful for you. Also, I'm quite bored and polls are fun.

[Poll #1052162]

I've only been skimming your recs (if I look at them at all) recently since they've been all SGA, which I don't watch, but I've actually meaning to mention for some time that your format of putting the pairing and the rating and the rec itself all on the same line without even any punctuation feels awkward to me. I'm used to being able to skim for pairings, and your set up makes my eyes have to work harder. It's not bad enough that I wouldn't read your recs for fandoms I know, and it helps that they're individual posts so it's not like I'm jumping into an entire webpage that's un-navigable, but since you asked for input, that's a change I would make.

*nods*

That's something that [livejournal.com profile] altyronsmaker mentioned in her comment to the last question of the poll, so good info to know.

:)

I knew I'd get an indepth and honest answer out of you, Elizabeth.

LOL

I keep having issues with the whole pairing thing anyway as I rec stuff. Sometimes I think it wrecks enjoyment of the story if you know the pairing going into it. Or, in this last bunch I recced, there was a Sam-centric story that has sex in it (she has sex with a random woman and vision!Teal'c) but it wasn't shippy sex and the story feels like gen to me. So what to do with that, you know? I have the same problems with character death at times. People want to be warned for that and I get why, but I think it often spoils a fic.

*grins* It's good to have a reputation :)

And yeah, I feel you on not wanting to give away the surprise. The problem I encounter more frequently is when a pairing is a major part of a fic but I think the fic has a lot of interesting stuff going on so that even if you're not particularly into that 'ship, so long as you don't actively dislike the 'ship you're likely to enjoy the fic. So I want it easily categorized for people who really do like the pairing, obviously, but I also want people who might not be actively searching for that pairing to find the fic rec. This is of course a bigger problem for me because all my recs go up on a big ole website rather than in easy to digest individual LJ posts. It's a little better on del.icio.us (though del.icio.us has its own problems, like the character limit in the "notes" section, so I can't speak at much length about *why* I'm reccing something) because I can tag by pairing and also character names and make tags like "ensemble" and "non-pairing centric."

You know, I do not like delicious. At all. I find it extremely annoying to navigate, which puts me in the minority I know as everybody on the flist seems to love it and use it regularly. Maybe part of it is that you can't really go on about what's something about or why you're bookmarking it.

Also, most people are not as really fucking smart conscientious as you are and end up tagging things in some inexplicable way that is somehow worse than random. LOL

Aww, I'm sorry you've had such bad experience with del.icio.us. I don't have the mad love for it that a lot of fandom seems to, but I often really enjoy wandering through people's recs and while I often find stuff tagged minimally (like maybe just with the fandom or even just with "to.rec" -- and definitely there's often a lack of any "notes" telling me why I should read this fic) I haven't encountered bad tagging.

Also: *blushes* Heart.
